Meet our Trustees

Sue Saxey, President

Sue Saxey picture

Sue was elected as President and a NCT Trustee at the 2010 Members’ Conference.  Sue previously served as a trustee in 1996 – 2002.

Sue has 2 adult children and has been involved with NCT since the late 1980’s.  Sue has previously held a variety of roles at branch, regional and national level; including branch chair, regional coordinator and Breastfeeding Counsellors' Panel chair.  In the interim, Sue qualified as a breastfeeding counsellor.

Sue is currently a Practice Nurse, having progressed in the nursing field over the last 30 years. Sue continues to work as a NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor, attending one of the branch baby and parent groups that she set up each week whilst combining this with her presidential duties.

Rob Hayter, Chair

Rob has been a NCT trustee since June 2008 (re-elected in 2011) and was elected as Chair of the board in June 2010.  Rob is chair of the Remuneration committee.

Rob has 1 young child, and stood for election to the board following his experience of the NCT shortly after the birth of his child.  Rob wanted to get involved and put something back into the charity having used NCT services.  Rob is passionate that parents are supported and thus give their children the best start in life.  Within NCT, his interests are in impact and how NCT can reach more parents.

Rob is currently a Director of a charity and public sector recruitment company and has worked in this area for 13 years.  Rob is also company secretary of a small resident’s management company.

Seána Talbot, Vice-Chair

Seána has been a NCT trustee since 2009 and was elected as Vice-Chair of the Board in June 2010.  Seána is a member of 2 committees: Nominations and Governance, and the Remuneration committee.

Seána has 3 children and has been a member of NCT since 2005 and active in a range of voluntary activities, including promoting NCT objectives via a range of community-based activities.   

Seána has previously worked in the health service as a speech & language therapist, a manager, a commissioner and a planner.  Seána is currently a Company Director of an international group specialising in overseas properties.  Seána chairs her local MSLC (Maternity Services Liaison Committee).

Tina Winders, Honorary Treasurer

Tina has been a NCT trustee since 2009 and was elected as Honorary Treasurer of the Board in September 2010.  Tina is chair of the Audit and Risk committee and also serves on the MIDIRS Board.

Tina has been a busy working mum for over 20 years and sought support from her local NCT after the birth of her children.  Tina is particularly keen to help NCT reach more teenage mums and mothers from minority ethnic backgrounds.

Tina has worked for 20 years in the Third Sector and is currently the Finance and Corporate Resources Director of Locality, UK's leading network for community-led organisations.

Sanjay Bhasin, Deputy Honorary Treasurer

Sanjay has been a NCT trustee since 2009 and was elected as Deputy Honorary Treasurer of the Board in December 2010.  Sanjay is also vice-chair of the Audit and Risk committee and a member of the Remuneration committee. 

Sanjay has 2 children and was keen to join a charity and contribute, based on his experience as a finance professional.  Sanjay is particularly keen to develop growth, use of information technology, risk management and research within NCT.

Sanjay has more than two decades of experience in financial services and is currently Managing Director at a German Bank. 

Bryan Macpherson, Honorary Secretary

Bryan has been a trustee since 2009 and was elected as Honorary Secretary in September 2011. Bryan is chair of the Nomination and Governance committee.

Bryan has 4 children.  As a father and proponet of breastfeeding, Bryan is particularly interested in the impact of NCT's work in the support and promotion of breastfeeding.  

A formal local branch chair for the Scottish National Party, Bryan currently works as an assistant to the SNP member of the Scottish Parliament for the Outer Hebrides islands

Helen Ableman, UK Trustee

Helen Ableman picture

Helen has been a NCT trustee since 2010.  Helen is vice-chair of the Impact Committee and a member of the Remuneration committee.  Helen is also a Baby Café trustee.

Helen has 1 child and attended NCT antenatal and postnatal courses.  Helen gained a huge amount from her local NCT branch, buidling a network of friends and continues to receive support and advice from her course leaders. 

Helen previously held healthcare manager roles with the NHS, General Medical Council (GMC) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).  Helen is currently a full time mum to her toddler.

Malcolm Ashton, UK Trustee

Malcolm Ashton picture

Malcolm has been a trustee since 2006 (re-elected in 2009) and is a member of 2 committees: Nomination and Governance, and Impact.  Malcolm was DSTC's last chair before the governance structure review.  Malcolm is also a Baby Cafe trustee.    

Malcolm has 2 adult children and has been an active NCT member for over 21 years; holding various branch roles, including secretary.  Malcolm continues to support his wife who is a NCT advanced antenatal teacher.  

Malcolm’s academic and professional qualifications are within the social sciences and social work: his present job involves working with people with learning disabilities.

Susy Broekhuizen, UK Trustee

Susy Broekhuizen picture

Susy has been a trustee since 1997 (re-elected in 2010).  Susy is a member of 2 committees: Nomination and Governance, and Audit and Risk (ARC).

Susy has 3 children and has been actively involved with NCT since 1998.  Susy has held a variety of roles within her local branch including chair and Nearly New Sales volunteer.  Susy began her antenatal teacher training in June 2011.

Susy is currently a Research and Development Manager for a leading consumer product company, having done so for the last 18 years.

Andre Clark, UK Trustee

Andre Clark picture

Andre has been a trustee since 2009 and is a member of 2 committees: Audit & Risk and Impact.

Andre has 3 children and has benefitted greatly from his interaction with NCT as a parent since the birth of his children.

Andre’s background is in Economics, which he teaches at his local university.  He also runs a property development company and a social enterprise.  He is now chair of Beacons Creative Wales Ltd (a social enterprise). 

Simon Mehigan, UK Trustee

Simon has been a trustee since 2010.  Simon is a member of the Impact Committee and also serves on the MIDIRS Board

Simon is a father of three - all born before he qualified as a Midwife (two at home).  In becoming a NCT Trustee, he believes that he would be working for an organisation whose values he shares and who are working to promote true choice to women and families.  

Simon has been a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife for more than 15 years.  He has recently been working as a Consultant Midwife in a busy Maternity Unit (8000 births), the lead for promoting “normality” within childbirth.

Ian Potts, UK Trustee

Ian Potts picture

Ian was elected as a trustee in 2011 and is a member of the Audit and Risk committee. 

Ian has 1 young child, and has found NCT immensely supportive since the birth his child.  To date his support has been indirect – providing childcare so his wife can fulfil her role both in the local branch and as part of the regional team.  Ian is keen to see the work that NCT is doing to support fathers continues.

Ian has worked with IT and technology for the past 25 years.  He is currently a Chartered Engineer, a professional member of the British Computer Society and an experienced Company Director.

Margaret Reid, UK Trustee

Margaret was elected as trustee in 2011 and is a member of the Impact committee.

Margaret initially used NCT's services in 1977 with the birth of her son.  Margaret has since worked with, and alongside, NCT in many ways, e.g. working on similar issues and policies, and carrying out research projects which involved NCT colleagues.

Margaret is a retired professor of Women's Health at Glasgow University, a sociologist by training. Her research career was focused upon the maternity services, and she has spent some 35 years researching ways of improving women's experiences of childbirth.

Kathryn Scanlan, UK Trustee

Kathryn Scanlan picture

Kathryn was elected as a trustee in 2008 (re-elected in 2011) and is chair of the Impact committee.  Kathryn is also a member of the Nomination and Governance committee and Non-Executive Director of NCT Trading Ltd.

Kathryn has 2 young children and became involved with NCT after attending antenatal classes.  Kathryn has previously held the role of Branch Publicity Officer of her local branch and is currently Branch Co-ordinator.

Kathryn previously worked for 10 years as an account director in the top 10 digital and advertising agencies in the UK.  Kathryn is currently a full-time mum.

Claire Shadbolt, UK Trustee

Claire was elected as trustee in 2011 and is a member of the Impact committee.

Claire has 2 children and became involved with NCT in 2000 after attending an antenatal course whilst pregnant with her eldest child.  Claire has held a variety of branch and regional roles, including branch chair and became a regional coordinator in 2008. 

Claire’s professional background is in the civil service, and continues to work on a part-time basis
