Campaigning for Better Birth Environment
The NCT believes that the environment in which a woman gives birth is very important.
We campaign to promote positive birth experiences and straightforward normal births because we know a straightforward birth provides a good start for mother and baby. It makes skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding easier and it reduces the need for special care and early separation from the mother. Many women want to give birth actively with a minimum of intervention and they need support to do so.
Our Better Birth Environment campaign aims to improve the environments in which women give birth to ensure this support is provided. Our campaign provides information on the changes that need to happen to ensure that all birth environments provide women with comfort and privacy and facilitate normal birth.
Have a look at some of our favourite birth environments. If you would like your unit to be included, please e-mail some pictures and information about the unit to campaigns@nct.org.uk
