Antenatal Refresher Courses

Refresher ClassesAntenatal Refresher courses are led by locally-based NCT-trained Antenatal Teachers* and are for those who have already had at least one baby. They offer a chance to reflect and build on past birth experiences and prepare yourself for looking after your new baby. Our courses are tailored to the needs of the attendees, based on their previous birth experience and their desires for this birth.

What are the benefits of refresher courses?

Refresher courses are a good way of concentrating on this baby and this pregnancy - often overlooked when there are toddlers and other children to look after. They are also a good way of meeting others and making a friendship group for the new addition. Parents often find that the people they meet on these courses become an important support in the months and sometimes years after their babies are born. The course will be appropriate whether you have a small or large gap and whether it is your second or your ninth baby.

NCT charges for courses in order to cover the costs to the charity for providing this service and to help us to provide services for all parents. Everyone is welcome to pay by installments and we offer discounts for parents in receipt of benefits or on lower incomes. Please request further information from the course administrator when you enquire about your course.

NCT courses are open to all parents and parents-to-be, including young parents, women without a partner, same-sex couples and surrogacy couples.  Women who are not attending with a partner are very welcome to bring someone else along to classes, for example a friend or family member.

*Our teachers, counsellors and postnatal leaders undergo comprehensive training with the NCT and hold Diplomas of Higher Education in their specialism.  They are not normally medically qualified and do not offer specific medical advice.  Parents are asked to seek any medical help from the relevant health professional.
