Your NCT

Join the NCT today! http://www.nct.org.uk/support-us/join

You are probably aware of what the NCT does nationally and how your membership allows the NCT to continue its pioneering work to support parents at a very special time in their lives. We've all gained at some time from the the wealth of information and support that it provides. But did you know that your membership can help us locally too and in ways that you can immediately benefit?

The Bassetlaw branch provides support for parents and parents-to-be locally, runs antenatal classes and organises various activities and events including the ever-popular Nearly New Sales.

The Bassetlaw branch is run by parents who donate their time and who are on hand to provide support for you in your life as a new parent. We're here to help you through pregnancy and early parenthood, continuing the NCT's work by providing a large local support network for you. Our fundraising events and donations help to raise valuable income for our training programmes, local support and information. So, whether it is membership, your time or fundraising, your support means that our work can continue.

We try to be a support network to help you through pregnancy and early parenthood. For some people, that support may be attending our very popular antenatal classes, or contacting a breastfeeding counsellor. For others it's meeting new parents at coffee mornings, finding out about child-friendly cafes or escaping from the “little darlings” on a wild social night out!

Make friends

We currently have nearly 100 household members of the branch, so the Bassetlaw branch is a great way to get out and meet lots of other mums and dads. Peer support can be invaluable in helping you realise that you are not alone and better still, that having a baby can actually provide you with a better social life than you had before! By joining, you open up the opportunity to make lots of new friends in your area, enjoy great family activities, gain support, get access to relevant information and share your experiences of being a parent.

How do you start? Just come along to any of our social or fundraising events, or any ofour weekly groups.
See the Local Groups section for more information about all the branch events taking place.

Postnatal Support

We understand the challenges and the joys that having a newborn brings. We aim to provide support to new parents at a time when friendships are needed but can be difficult to make. Our Parent Support Co-Ordinator can put you in touch with other mums and dads in your area.

Newsletter

Our newsletter is another perk of your membership. It's always full of tips and ideas as well as things to do. As a member your copy is sent out to as soon as it is printed. And you are welcome to contribute an article too!

Breastfeeding support

Many of our members are peer supporters and although we have no local trained Breastfeeding Counsellors the NCT national breastfeeding line has been set up to support you.

Get Involved

Aside from our paid Specialist Workers who are trained by the NCT to run our courses, the branch is run on a voluntary basis by its members for its members and all new parents but we are only as good as the people who help out. Volunteering is a great way to fill the gap if you are taking time out from work and is a great way to give something back if, like most of us who volunteer, the NCT provided you with a fantastic group of friends as well as a support network.

You can become more involved with the Bassetlaw branch by writing for our newsletter, taking on a committee role, making tea and coffee at one of our groups or at a social event, volunteering at the Nearly New Sales, hosting a coffee morning or even delivering newsletters. There are plenty of jobs and nothing should ever be too onerous. Just contact us for more information.
