Boycott Nestle - International Nestle free week 31st October - 6th November
NCT Supports the WHO/UNICEF International Code on marketing of breastmilk substitutes and the subsequent Nestle Boycott, so no Nestle products such as Nescafe, should be used at any NCT event. Nestle is the target of an international boycott in 20 countries because it has more reported violations of the WHO Code than any other manufacturer.
Nestle is the worst of the baby food companies, pushing baby milk around the world.
- using strategies that are prohibited by international marketing standards.
- refuses to warn of the risks from formula and how to reduce them.
- Nestle know babies fed on formula are more likely to become sick than breastfed babies and, in conditions of poverty, more likely to die.
- It puts its own profits before health
- Nestle has said it will stop only 4 of the 130 violations it counted in its profile in the latest global monitoring report from the international baby food action network.
- refuses to warn that powdered milk is not sterile and the simple steps to reduce the risks of possible contamination with harmful bacteria. Instead it promotes formula with health and nutrition claims.
According to UNICEF "Improved breastfeeding practices and reduction of artificial feeding could save an estimated 1.5 million children a year"
