COULD YOU GIVE SOMETHING BACK?

Volunteer Opportunities

As all our local volunteers have family commitments and jobs, we have tried to break down the various roles in the branch to make it easier for people to fit in volunteering around their busy lives.

There are activities that only take a couple of hours a year to more regular weekly involvement in activities – flexibly fitting round the demands of a family.

Many of the activities work well shared with someone else or a small team (such as organising the nearly new sales).

Volunteer Bank

If you think you could spare just an hour or two on an occasional basis, and would you like to help us in reaching out to and supporting more parents and parents-to-be in the area, we would love to hear from you. The occasional tasks you might be asked to consider doing could include helping out at a Nearly New Sale in your area, putting up posters at your local shop, toddler group, or nursery, offering a friendly ear to a struggling new mum in the next street, contacting some potential advertisers, either by phone, letter or in person, or just attending a nearby social event, to give the organiser some moral support! By signing up to the Volunteer Bank, you are NOT committing yourself to take on all (or even any at all!) of the tasks you might be asked to do.

Local Area Reps

If you would like a small role that concentrates on your local area, how about considering becoming an Area Rep? We have divided the Croydon branch area up into 23 smaller local areas, each with about 10 members in, and each has its own area rep who acts as a point of contact between the members in their area and the branch committee, improving communication within the branch by feeding back comments and suggestions from members to the committee and vice versa. Primarily they aim to make new members feel welcome, making sure they are aware of the services we offer locally and invite them to local social events. It shouldn’t be a large time commitment on a regular basis unless you want to be really involved.

Fundraising Team

The work of the NCT depends on generating income to fund activities and services. Some of this money comes from things like membership subscriptions and antenatal class fees, but our branch also depends heavily on local fundraising through events such as Nearly New Sales. The more money we generate, the better able the NCT is to carry on its vital campaigning work and provide much-needed parent services.

Playgroup helpers

Love toys and cups of tea? We need friendly and welcoming people to run our playgroups.  By volunteering for the NCT, you are supporting local parents and helping the work of the NCT nationally.

Newsletter Editor

The branch produces a quarterly newsletter and offers of help with writing and production are always welcome. The team write and collate articles and prepare the layout of the newsletter for printing. The newsletter goes out to over 450 local families and this is a great way of using skills in a flexible way.

Newsletter Designer

A great opportunity to unleash your creative spirit!  The role includes laying out edited copy and adverts, adapting pictures for printing, creating PDF proofs, making the magazine print ready, liaising with editorial, advertising and printing teams.  Equipment required: design software such as Quark Xpress or Indesign Photoshop, good internet connection.

Postnatal hosts

Join our team of volunteer postnatal first time mums and second time mums hosts who hold weekly groups for new and second-time mums for a six week period.  The groups are informal get togethers which are invaluable in allowing new mums to meet other mums in their area.  Time commitment: 2-4hrs per month and groups can be organised at your convenience.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Abi at volunteering@nctcroydon.co.uk or Amanda at deputychair@nctcroydon.co.uk.

Volunteering is a good way to meet different people, use your existing experience to help a great charity and learn new skills.
