"Journey to Motherhood" pilot project at the Wharf Children's Centre.

There's a new pilot project taking place at the Wharf Children's Centre. They are looking for 4 - 6 first time mums who will be about 36 weeks pregnant at the start of the project.

The aim of the group will be to provide a space for women to explore their journey to motherhood in a creative and therapeutic way within the supportive context of a group. The group will explore themes of motherhood, identity, relationship to the self and other and the changing body. Sessions will include work with images, objects from the natural world, cloth, myths and fairytales, art work and movement with touch and sound. The group will meet for twelve weeks, with a more open structure in the middle four weeks when the women are due to give birth.

Following their birth the mothers will be encouraged to bring their babies with them to the last few sessions. We will be holding 20 minute 1:1 meetings at the Childrens Centre on the morning of 24/02/12. These will offer an opportunity for women who are interested in taking part in the project to come and meet me and gain a better sense of what the project is about. This meeting will also give me an opportunity to assess the different needs of each women and look at potential group dynamics. After this the first group meeting will be on 02/03/12. The timing for the session is not completely finalised but we expect sessions to take place between 10- 11.30 on Friday mornings at the Wharf Children's Centre.

Anyone who would like more information or who is interested in taking part in this project should contact the Wharf on 01483418652 or email Carol at coord@wharf.surrey.sch.uk.

Regular meet up dates

There's a regular series of meet ups happening across the area during August and September, all organised by our area reps. They're a perfect opportunity to catch up with other local parents, and get out in the sunshine (or get your money's worth from your waterproofs and wellies!). View our events calendar to see dates near you and contact areareps@godalmingnct.org.uk for more information.

Cheeky Monkey tea party

We had a great time at our Cheeky Monkey tea party in June - despite the damp weather! Read all about the event and keep an eye out for next year's date.
