Get Involved
Volunteers, parents and expectant parents just like you, run our branch. You don’t need to take on huge tasks, just commit whatever time you can or your previous experience and skills. It is a great way to learn new skills, make new friends, and represent the NCT. Get in touch and get involved.

We have several volunteers looking to move on during the next few months. Thank you for all the recent interest in our volunteer roles. There are several opportunities that require much less of your time, but some of our most pivotal roles that would need new volunteers are:
Newsletter (Smalltalk) Coordinator
The Smalltalk team require someone to be the main contact with our design editor - this involves forwarding on articles (collated from the features editor and other NCT committee members), producing a page layout and answering any queries that may arise during the collation process. You will be part of the SmallTalk committee which meets four times a year. This is an admin role with ad hoc time requirements only four times a year!
Parent Coordinators (a shared role)
This role is essentially what the NCT is all about – being a support to parents! The Parent Support Coordinators will ensure that new members, ante natal class attendees and enquirers are welcomed to the branch and receive information about the activities and support that is on offer. We need to keep the parent support system in the branch working well, so need our Parent Support Coordinators to
- If they have administrative skills to respond to general queries and update records
- If they have organisational skills plan events and motivate the team
- Support groups such as homebirth, caesarean birth, parents of premature babies, groups for dads, working parents, disabled parents, single parents - the range is huge and what can be offered will depend on the availability of volunteers and their particular interests.
- Liaise with local health and children's services providers, branch ante and postnatal teachers/leaders and breastfeeding counsellors to keep them up to date
This role requires a team of people with a variety of skills, interests or time commitments so please do get in touch!
Other vacancies which require more ad hoc time commitments are:
- Neighbourhood organiser (ad hoc time based on what you can spare)
For further details of our other vacancies, please contact our Recruitment Coordinator at volunteer@harpenden-nct.org. Detailed descriptions of all roles available on our Facebook page.
