Nearly New Sales
We hold two Nearly New Sales each year, where you can get some great bargains, sell your children’s old (but good condition) toys and clothes and help support the NCT too. Nearly New Sales also prevent tonnes of children’s clothing and toys going to landfill every year. Over 300 people came to our last Nearly New Sale in October and we made over £5,500 and £2,000 of this went to the NCT!
We are also a Gold Standard Sale. This means that not only has the Isle of Wight branch raised significant amounts of money through their sales but they have also reached at least 600 parents, had at least 40 volunteers help out, sell a wide variety of products and provide a high standard of service to both customer and sellers. This is an award we’re very proud of!
Our sales are held at The Riverside Centre, The Quay, Newport, PO30 2QR and we sell newborn and children’s clothes, maternity wear, toys and equipment.
We have introduced a new queue system as from the April 2011 sale. Bring your NCT membership card with you to gain advance entrance at 11.15am. Without a membership card, you will have to wait until 11.30am for entrance.
Next Sale: Saturday 14th April 2012
Selling at the sale is very straightforward and anyone can sell items at the sale (you do not have to be a member of the NCT). All items must be nearly new, complete and in good condition. The NCT Isle of Wight branch can send you a seller’s pack which will include all the instructions you need about what items you can sell at the sale and a set of 60 price tags to price items with. 60% of the value of each item you sell will be sent by cheque to you after the sale and 40% will go to the NCT charity. It costs £1.75 to register as a seller (to cover printing costs, etc) and this will be deducted from your final cheque. You will be instructed as to what time to deliver your items to the Riverside Centre, Newport on the day of the sale (probably between 9.00-10.30am) and then you can pick up any unsold items by 3pm in the afternoon. Everything else (displaying the items, etc) is done for you by sale volunteers.
We do not accept for safety reasons, the following items:
- Car seats
- Baby Bouncers/walkers
- Riding hats
- Crash helmets
- Bike seats
- Baby bottles and teats
- Baby food, including formula
- Shoes/trainers/slippers
- Breast pumps (manual, battery or mains)
- Mains electrical items
- Hand knitted clothes/toys
- Items with tears, holes, stains, stitching coming undone, faded items or too worn
- Broken or incomplete toys/equipment
- Wrong season – we will reject any summer clothing for October’s sale and winter clothing for April’s sale
- No mattress sales except with a travel cot (private mattress sales can occur via the private sales board)
- Children’s clothing with drawstring around the neck

Can you help?
We can always use help in the following ways:-
Putting up some leaflets publicising the sale in your area - please contact us and let us know how many and we will send them to you - we will need your name and address.
Bag Stuffing - this is preparing goody bags a few days in advance of the sale, ready to be given to all customers on the door. We get together at someone's house to do this. Many hands make light work.
Can you help on the day of the sale? Helpers get 15 minutes of priority shopping time before the sale, if they help for minimum 3 hours.
Donations - If you donate clothes/equipment/toys to the organising team for us to sell on the NCT’s behalf, 100% of the money raised goes to branch to assist with our fundraising.
Sellers' Noticeboard
Large or otherwise unsuitable items may be advertised on a card on our Private Sale Board at a charge of £1 per item, payable on the morning of the sale at the seller’s registration. This can be used for any individual items but we specifically recommend it for things that are too big to bring to the sale (garden slide, sandpits, etc) or for items that fall outside the remit of an NCT sale (electrical equipment, carseats, etc). When leaving an advert, please ensure your name and phone number are clearly marked and a clear photograph of each item will make it more eye-catching. All items sold through the notice board will constitute a private sale. The NCT accepts no responsibility for any complaints about goods sold this way or any other problems between the buyer and seller.
If you are interested in helping at the sale, have any questions about selling your items or any other questions, please email Liz at nearlynew@wightnct.org.uk or call 07730 849343.
