Life with baby

Having a baby is a life-changing and challenging experience. Having the right support around you can make all the difference, and help you to enjoy the experience of being a parent.

 

For many parents, having a baby is an experience they have little preparation for! In our recent branch survey, new parenthood came out as the area you most wanted more support with and so we are trying to respond to this.

At Lewisham NCT Branch we will try to direct you to sources of local support that can help you with any questions, worries or concerns you may have. Browse these pages for local activity listings, contact details for NCT reps in your area, helplines and much more.

Lewisham NCT New Parent Support
Our branch has New Parents Supporters in each area of the borough, who organise regular new parent Tea Groups to enable parents to get-together in a relaxed setting, and meet others with babies of a similar age and form their own support networks. Getting out and about with your baby, and sharing your ups and downs with others, can really make a difference.

See your local area webpage here for details of your local New Parent Supporter.  Just give them a call or send an email, with your baby's age (or due date), they would love to hear from you! They will then be able to give you details of local meet-ups. They are also happy to give you information about bringing up a baby in your local area.

If your area does not have a New Parent Supporter at the moment, apologies we are trying to fill the volunteer vacancies as best we can. Do contact your Area Rep or a NPS in another area as you are welcome to attend events anywhere.

Bumps and Babies Group

NCT Bumps & Babies
There are various Bumps and Babies groups in our area which provide welcoming settings for expectant mums and/or those with small children. Some have special baby rooms. Check out the area pages to see what's on near you.

NCT Postnatal Early Days Course 
This course is designed to support you in this big life change. The groups provide a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which to openly talk about your life as a mum.  They are held in Brockley in the daytime - for more details please see here

Lewisham Children's Centres
Many children's centres offer drop-in clinics where you can access help from teams of health, education and social care professionals. Some offer playgroups and coffee mornings too.  The Lewisham centres are divided into four areas - please see these links for what's on near you.

Area 1: Brockley, Telegraph Hill, Evelyn and New Cross
Area 2: Ladywell, Crofton Park, Lewisham Central, Lee Green, Rushey Green, Blackheath
Area 3: Whitefoot, Downing, Catford South and Grove Park
Area 4: Bellingham, Forest Hill, Sydenham, Perry Vale
