Liverpool Home Birth and Natural Birth Support Group

The monthly informal group is run by Selina who is also a Doula (birth partner).

Selina attended NCT antenatal classes, planned a homebirth in 2003 but found there was little support available and ended up in hospital after minor complications during her pregnancy. “I felt it would be useful to other women thinking about having their baby at home to have an informal group where they could meet up and discuss their experiences. We have been running a homebirth support group in Liverpool for nearly five years (look out for details of a celebration event to celebrate this in early September 2010).

We meet on a monthly basis, in my living room in Aigburth (near Lark lane).

The group is very informal and I encourage people to bring along partners, grandparents, birth partners, babies, toddlers etc with them.

Each meeting is different, depending on who turns up, but we usually introduce ourselves, have a drink and a biscuit (often home-made) and discuss, share stories, questions and concerns on all aspects of natural birth and homebirth.

We can also provide support to anyone who knows they will need medical intervention but want tips on how to keep things as natural as possible!

We have also recently received funding from Liverpool NCT to purchase a library of books, dvd’s and a birth ball as a lending library, come along to the next group to see!”

See the Liverpool NCT events page for the date of the next meeting or email Selina for more details Selina@deverra.co.uk
