Join a postnatal group in Trafford

A postnatal group offers a great opportunity to meet other new mothers in the area, to swap birth stories, to find out who is getting the most and the least sleep and just generally have a good natter over a cup of tea in an informal home setting.

These postnatal groups are an invaluable form of support for mothers, particularly first-time mothers, who find themselves in an alien world of babies, nappies and breastfeeding; a world with no routine, no structure and no control!

Postnatal groups help us all to adjust from the world of work to the world of parenting, and allow us to make friends with other women who live locally and will be at home with a baby too, at least for the next six to twelve months.

Postnatal groups are hosted by two local NCT members, alternating houses each week for about 6-8 weeks. They allow women who may or may not have met other mothers at antenatal classes, or have only made friends with mums who live far away, to share the ups and downs of early parenthood in a safe and cosy environment. You are served tea, coffee and biscuits given time to chat and get to know one another as friends. These groups often continue indefinitely with ‘hosting’ rotating among group members.

If you would like to join a new postnatal group email nctpostnatal@googlemail.com with your name, address, phone number and due date.

Notes:·

* All sessions welcome breastfeeding and bottle feeding mothers
* All sessions are open to NCT members and non-members alike. However, each session MUST have an NCT member in attendance for insurance cover otherwise it will need to be cancelled.

FAQs

* What is a postnatal group? A postnatal group is a weekly get together with other new mothers (or mothers to be) in your area, in an informal home environment. They run for 6-8 weeks (and often indefinitely) and are hosted by NCT members. The purpose of postnatal groups is to provide support for mothers who find themselves in an alien and often isolated world of babies, nappies and breastfeeding. Getting yourself and a fed, cleaned bottomed and dressed baby out of the house to be somewhere at a set time is quite a challenge in the early weeks but you’ll be glad you did.
A postnatal group can be an invaluable form of support in the last few weeks of your pregnancy and your first few weeks (6-8) of your new life with a baby. Postnatal groups can be a real life line in those early sleepless weeks when you have no routine and feel weary eyed.
* How can I join a postnatal group? If you would like to join a new postnatal group email nctpostnatal@googlemail.com with your name, address, phone number and due date. Please use a personal email address rather than a work email address as you may have started maternity leave when we try to get in touch.
* Can I host a postnatal group? If you would like to host a postnatal group email nctpostnatal@googlemail.com with your name, address and phone number. An NCT member must be in attendance for insurance cover.
