Want to get involved?

Want to get involved with your local NCT?

The NCT in Newbury provides services, information and support to parents across the west Berkshire area through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Volunteers, parents and expectant parents just like you, run our branch and our activities. We currently need more members on our committee and are looking to fill some key volunteer positions (see below for more info).

We offer many different kinds of opportunities for you to get more involved and to help other parents in our area, whether giving a few hours of your time to our branch or taking on a particular role. You can use your skills (and learn new ones), creativity, enthusiasm, commitment, experience from working life and as a parent, make friends and have FUN! There’s something for everyone, however much or little time you have to spare.

If you are interested in helping and representing your local branch or think you have something to offer, then please get in touch via email on info@newburynct.org to find out more.

We are currently looking for volunteers to take on these rewarding roles:

Advertising Coordinator

Advertising and sponsorship raise essential funds for the NCT and help ensure that your branch publications and services to parents can happen. By raising money for the NCT you are helping your branch to reach scores, hundreds or even thousands of parents locally, and helping the charity as a whole to support over a million parents every year.
In this role you would help:

  • help branch publications and activities to pay for themselves via advertising and sponsorship.
  • Liaise with the full branch team, particularly event organisers, Newsletter Editor, Treasurer, Webmaster and Fundraising Coordinator, to ensure full advantage is taken of sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
  • Ensure that invoices raised and monies received are banked promptly and accounted for through the Treasurer.
  • Inspire local companies and organisations to advertise in and sponsor branch publications, events and service.s
  • Sell advertising and commercial sponsorship across the branch, from newsletter and web advertising to sponsorship and stalls at events, building a team to help with this as required.
  • Make sure the branch gets the most out of support from companies.

The main two parts of this role are getting advertisers into the Newsletter (4 times a year) and advertisers at the Nearly New Sales (twice a year). So these are the peaks in the amount of work in the role, with a trickle of enquires in between, however it is easy to accommodate around family and work commitments. You would need access to a computer and the internet.
Full handover and support from existing advertising co-ordinator who is looking to stand down at the next AGM in May or before if someone is ready to take it on.

Publicity Officer

The Publicity Officer’s main role is to make the branch and what it can offer really well known in the area through many means of marketing. We use as much free publicity as possible. We try to write press releases, statements or photo-call notices to send to local newspapers and radio stations for any events, especially the Nearly New Sales. We need to develop our relationship further with the Newbury Weekly News and Newbury Sound (Kick FM). All of whom are able to give interviews and airtime to us. We aim to find more locations for flyers and information stations such as children’s centres, medical centres/surgeries, leisure centres libraries to increase our visibility to local parents and parents to be. To be a Publicity Officer all you need is the ability to talk openly and persuasively about your branch, have a knowledge of what the NCT does, and have computer literacy to be able to create flyers and posters. It is a vital role as we really want to raise awareness of the NCT with in the local community so more people can benefit from our services.

Little Villagers Social Group Coordinator

Little Villagers was a lovely group set up to support those in the Hungerford and Kintbury areas. It works really well for bumps and babies until they are on the move. Until recently it has been held fortnightly at Cobbs farm, and prior to that at the organiser’s house. This can be arranged to suit the requirements of anyone taking on the role. It would be good to start the group up again as many Mums got a lot out of being able to meet up with other expectant and new Mums and exchange local information, without having to traipse into Newbury. The role would involve emailing any interested attendees prior to the meeting to remind them when the next one was, liaising with the committee to keep the branch details about the the group up to date.
