Volunteering

Do you have a few hours to spare?

Volunteers, parents and expectant parents just like you, run our branch. You don’t need to take on huge tasks, just commit whatever time you can. Whatever your previous experience, it is almost certainly useful to the branch. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make friends and represent the NCT. Get in touch and get involved!

Current Vacancies

Newsletter Advertising Coordinator

This role involves contacting current newsletter and advertisers regarding renewal of their advertising and dealing with queries from potential advertisers. It's an admin and telephone based role and the time required probably averages out to about 1 hour per week with maybe a little more the couple of weeks before going to print. This is nice role for someone who likes keeping records, has a good telephone manner and good organisational skills.

Newsletter Distribution - shared role

Make sure our quarterly newsletter gets where it needs to go! Stuff envelopes with newsletter and other information, sort addressed envelopes into geographical areas for hand delviery volunteers and distibute to this network (car needed!), build this network! This role is a lot more fun as a gang so no offers will be turned away. The newsletter is printed once every 3 months so is a periodic committment.

Other Volunteer Roles within Southampton NCT Branch

Nearly New Sale Volunteer

The Southampton NCT branch holds two Nearly New Sales each year. Each sale requires over 80 volunteers on the day, helping to set up, manage the event and clean up. Our next sale is in November 2012 at Tautons College, Hill Lane, Southampton, SO15 5RL. Shifts begin as early as 8 am and end at about 2 pm. We appreciate any amount of time you can give us. Your main benefit? You get to shop at the Preview Sale before general admission...and if you can stay to help us clear up, we'll also provide a light lunch for you as our thank you for your efforts.

If you'd like to volunteer for the NNS then contact Jo C at soton-nnsvol@nct.org.uk.

General Members

Volunteers who have no specific role but just take a general interest in the branch and help out where they can by:

  • Running local tea groups / bumps & babes groups
  • Providing articles and top tips for our quarterly news letter
  • Coming up with ideas for fundraising
  • Helping set up and clear up at Bumps & Babes groups
  • Making refreshments and manning our stalls at different events throughout the year

If you are interested in any of the above positions, would like some more info about anything we do, or would like to join our bank of volunteers to be invited to help us attend different events then please contact our Branch coordinator on 023 8058 4715 or by email: soton@nct.org.uk.

Meeting the Team

Branch Team Meetings

If it sounds a bit daunting to volunteer without finding out more why not come along to one of our monthly branch meetings? We meet every month alternating between an evening and a day time slot, this way we can manage to fit in to most parents diarys. Children are welcome to daytime meetings and babes in arms are welcome to evening meetings. Meetings are generally held in different volunteers homes across the city, or sometimes run alongside a regular event - contact our Branch coordinator on soton@nct.org.uk to find out more.

Branch Brunch

We hold 2 branch brunches per year on a Saturday morning. This gives the branch team a chance to meet each others families, chat informally and enjoy a bacon butty! Entertainment is provided to keep the children amused and partners get a chance to come along too. It is also a great place to come and meet the team informally if you are interested in joining in and would like to get to know some of us before you commit. The next branch brunch will be held in August, venue tbc. For more details contact our Branch coordinator on soton@nct.org.uk to find out more.
