This is a fun, informal, social affair, with a chance to hear about what the NCT does around York, what other support is available in the area, but most importantly, for you to meet other parents-to-be who are due babies at the same time. The ‘Bra Lady’ and ‘Nappy Lady’ are usually there too, with a chance for you to hear about their products as well as a trained breastfeeding counsellor.

Making friends with someone with a similar age child is one of the most valuable things attending an NCT antenatal class can offer, but not everyone wants to go to a whole course, perhaps because they are not pregnant for the first time, or because they are unable to commit to a series of weekend or evening dates. If this sounds like you, then Speed Bumps could be just the thing – but antenatal class attendees are more than welcome too of course! And don’t feel this is a ‘couples’ event, we’d love anyone to come, Mum- or Dad-to-be. Parents with a very young baby (up to about six-weeks) can also join us.

Nappy changing facilities and a private feeding area will be available if required. There is no charge for this event, but donations always appreciated to cover the cost of refreshments. Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be available, and even some homemade cake if we find time to bake, and there will be a prize draw.
