Improve postnatal care - the Cinderella service
Being a new mother should be a positive experience. Every new parent deserves the support needed to become confident in caring for their baby, themselves and in adjusting to their new role and their new and changed relationships with their baby and partner.

Location, location, location
NCT is campaigning to make sure all women in the UK have the choice of where they have their babies. The options they should be given are: home birth; birth centre - either standalone or alongside; and obstetric unit in a hospital. In England, there is a guarantee that by the end of 2009, all women will have this choice. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, there is no such guarantee, but we believe women in all four countries should have the full range of options available and accessible to them.

Better Birth Environment
NCT believes that the environment in which a woman gives birth is very important. Our Better Birth Environment campaign aims to improve the environments in which women give birth. Our campaign provides information on the changes that need to happen to ensure that all birth environments provide women with comfort and privacy and which facilitate normal birth.

NFWI Resolution on More Midwives
NCT supports the adoption of a resolution to recruit more midwives which the National Federation of Women's Institutes will adopt in May. If you are a member of NFWI find out more about NCT's case for passing this resolution to help more new parents and parents-to-be to get the support they need.

Campaign to save independent midwifery
NCT supports the IMUK campaign to save independent midwifery. It is important for women and families that independent midwives are available as one of the range of choices available for maternity care, but independent midwives' right to practice is being threatened by changes to insurance rules.
Alliance Against Pregnancy Discrimination
NCT is a member of the Alliance Against Pregnancy Discrimination - a coalition of organisations appalled by the discrimination faced by new and expectant mothers in the workplace. The Alliance calls on the Government to send a strong message that discriminating against pregnant women and new mothers is unacceptable and illegal. The group monitors, campaigns and provides advice and support.
Charter of rights for women seeking asylum
NCT believes that all women are entitled to receive an equal quality of treatment and therefore we support the Charter of rights forwomen seeking asylum.
