Welcome to the Andover & District branch of the NCT

Run by local parents for local parents, we offer friendship, information and support to parents-to-be, new parents and families with small children living in the Andover, Tidworth and Ludgershall area. Whether you are having the time of your life, or are finding life difficult with a new baby or small child, Andover & District NCT has something to to offer you, including:

Small and friendly antenatal classes
Breastfeeding support
Gentle yoga based exercise, relaxation and breathing for pregnancy classes
'Bumps and Babies' coffee groups for mums-to-be, new mums and babies.
Parent and toddler coffee groups (for mums/dads/carers and toddlers/children up to pre-school age).
A regular programme of exciting fundraising and social events for the whole family
NCT Nearly New Sales two to three times a year.
NCT bra fitting and sales service

Our coffee groups and fundraising and social events are a great way of making friends with other parents / carers with babies and young children living in your local area and having a great time!

You do not have to be a NCT member to come along to any of our coffee groups or to take part in any of our branch fundraising or social events. However by joining, you make a big difference to the NCT, enabling them to continue to reach out and provide information, advice and support to parents-to-be, new parents and families with young children, and continue its campaigning work to improve maternity care and ensure better services and facilities for all new parents in the UK.

Andover & District Branch News

'Springboard' our summer newsletter is now available (see attachment below). To save on paper, printing and postage costs we have decided not to do a print run this time, however please let us know if you would like a paper copy of our next autumn edition.

We would like to thank everyone who came along to our Teddy Bears Picnic at the Phoenix Centre last week. We had approximately 20 children plus parents/carers, including some new families, who had either heard about it on the radio or had seen it advertised in the local paper which is great!

We also had a couple of people along from the Andover Advertiser, who took some photos of the children painting and who will be doing a write up about our event shortly.

Andover & District NCT Branch Meeting - Monday 13th July

Our next branch meeting is on Monday 13th July at 8 pm at 74 Leigh Road, Andover (as parking is limited it is best to park in nearby Bere Hill Crescent).

We will be having a short committee meeting followed by getting the goody bags ready in preparation for the nearly new sale on Sunday 19th July. Our nearly new sale co-ordinator is standing down after the July sale, as she is returning to work after maternity leave and we are urgently looking for someone to take her place. If you think that you might be interested in being our next nearly new sale co-ordinator, please call Jo on 01264 391524 for an informal chat, or come along to our next meeting.

Andover & District NCT Nearly New Sale - sunday 19th July

Our next nearly new sale will be on Sunday 19th July 2009 at John Hanson School, Floral Way, Andover from 11.30 am - 1 pm (NCT members have advanced entry from 11 am - please bring your NCT membership card with you, or other proof of membership). Cost of entry is £1 per adult (children and babies have free entry).

The idea of our summer sale is to provide the opportunity for families to buy and sell outdoor toys, older children's clothes and school uniforms, as well as baby's and younger children's clothes, toys, books, nursery equipment and maternity wear. In fact, you can sell whatever you want as long as it is within the NCT guidelines. We run our nearly new sales as a 'table top sales', which are always very popular. We still have a few tables left, so if you are interested in selling at the July nearly new sale, please call Jo on 01264 391003, or email her at: jo_renfrey@hotmail.com and ask for a sellers information pack and booking form. Tables cost of £15 each. So why not team up with a friend (or two) and sell at our next sale?

Andover & District NCT Charity Summer Ball - Saturday 8th August

Our Charity Summer Ball is on Saturday 8th August. This is being held at 'The Lights', West Street in Andover, which on a summer's evening should be a stunning venue!

Tickets cost £35 each, which includes a reception drink, a delicious 4 course meal and live band for you to dance the night away to some of your all time favourite songs. There will also be a raffle with some fabulous and unique prizes. The event starts at 8 pm and finishes at midnight.

Sponsored 'Big Toddle' - Monday 27th July

Come and join us on our sponsored 'Big Toddle' around Charlton Lakes, followed by a picnic lunch afterwards. All monies raised will be split between the NCT and Barnardos Charities.

We will be meeting at 11.30 am at the Charlton Sports Centre car park, Charlton, Andover (signposted off the A343 West Portway roundabout, west of Andover)

Michelle has all the sponsorship forms now. All children who take part receive a certifcate and a medal. Last year it was lovely - it was very hot and the picnic was topped off by many of our children running in the sprinklers to cool off on the sports field!

Cheeky Monkeys Tea Party - Friday 21st August 2099

Everyone is invited to come along to our Cheeky Monkeys Tea Party, which is being held on Friday 21st August at 3 pm at Andover Baptist Church, Charlton Road, Andover (opposite the Magic Roundabout pub, adjacent to the A343 Folly roundabout). There will be lots of fun for the kids, plus there will be a cup of tea for parents /carers and some lovely homemade cakes, all for just £2.50 per child. Contact Michelle for tickets on 07834 277595 - the first 20 tickets purchased will receive a free goody bag for their child!

Other planned fundraising and social events

Other exciting events we have planned for later this year, include our end of summer barbecue (date and venue still tbc), children's Halloween party, Christmas gift shopping event and our annual children's Christmas party. Please note that our branch is run by a very small group of parents, all of whom are volunteers. The majority of us are either on maternity leave with young babies,or are juggling work with small children, so are not able to return your telephone calls or answer your email enquiries immediately, so please be patient with us!
