Chair's Letter

Summer 2010

My children are now 6, 5 and 3 and even though the challenges of babyhood are a distant memory, I still need to talk to friends and family about our current parenting challenges (what to do during the school hols, sports activities, childcare, returning to work etc.) and to share the experiences both good and bad!

For those of you just starting off on the parenting journey, one great way of getting support and friendship in Bromsgrove is through our NCT Bumps and Babies group which meets every Tuesday afternoon (including during the holidays). These are friendly, relaxed, hosted sessions with tea and biscuits and are open to all parents with bumps and babies / toddlers.  Starting soon breastfeeding support will also be on hand.

However, when what you most need is some grown up time away from your kids then look through our Events page for our social nights (on or around the 1st of every month). For Babysitters why not consider joining the babysitting circle where local parents (including lots of past and present committee members).  Contact us for more information.

Another way to get some adult time is to volunteer for the NCT and join the branch team.  Quite a few of our longest serving branch committee are ready to move on—with children starting school, while some of the more recent recruits are having new babies.  So we’d love to hear from anyone who wants to get more involved with the branch.  We’ll make you very welcome at our monthly meetings and it can be a really good way of getting to know other local parents.

Volunteering could increase your skills and even be a good way of adding to your CV ready for a return to the world of work!

All the best.

Helen, Anny, Julie, Mary, Briony, Fiona, Sarah A, Sarah B, Jan and the rest of us!
