Yoga for Pregnancy

NCT Yoga for Pregnancy classes are uniquely designed to be a combination of a normal antenatal class and a yoga class. The classes offer an opportunity to meet other pregnant women from your area and refreshments are always included.

Your NCT Yoga for Pregnancy teacher will have undergone three years of training as an antenatal teacher plus a further year of yoga training. As a result you can feel confident that not only will the exercises be designed to be safe for pregnant women, but your teacher will understand many of the physical discomforts which can come with pregnancy – backache, heartburn etc and will be able to show you which postures to avoid and which might help.

Yoga can help during pregnancy by:

  • Improving posture
  • Giving ‘time-out’ from a busy life to spend with your baby
  • Helping women feel more confident with breathing for labour and birth
  • Relaxing the mind and aiding sleep
  • Helping with pregnancy ailments such as swollen ankles
  • Increasing flexibility

Many women who attend NCT Yoga for Pregnancy classes have never done yoga before and the classes are gentle and suitable for beginners.

To find your nearest NCT Yoga for Pregnancy teacher, please type your postcode into the NCT course finder.

If you have specific ailments, please check with your midwife or GP that yoga will be suitable for you.

(Please note that while an NCT teacher is completing her final year of yoga training the classes will be called 'Relax, Stretch and Breathe' but they are in essence the same as an NCT Yoga for Pregnancy class.)
