Volunteering Opportunities

South Gloucestershire Branch, like all branches, is run by volunteers. We give our time willingly to improve the services we offer to our members, and all derive personal enjoyment from our individual roles. We have all made new friends, gained new skills, and enjoy knowing that however small our efforts, we are making a positive difference to local parents’ lives. Yet with your help our branch could offer so much more.

You do not need to have any relevant experience to volunteer with us. Training can be given if necessary, and the rest of the committee is always ready to support you. Some roles demand a minimum commitment in order that the branch can be run effectively, but you will never be pressured to do more than you feel comfortable with, and in general you can contribute as much or as little time as you feel you can give. We all have young children, and understand that some weeks are more difficult than others!

Current vacancies are outlined below, but if none of the roles appeal, and you feel you have something to offer the branch, remember we never turn away volunteers! Even if specific roles are already filled, their holders will always welcome help. The newsletter team would love new members to contribute articles or help attract and deal with advertising, and the nearly new sales organisers always need more helpers, for example.

Fundraising Team
The work of the NCT depends on generating income to fund activities and services. Some of this money comes from things like membership subscriptions and antenatal class fees, but our branch also depends heavily on local fundraising through events such as Nearly New Sales. The more money we generate, the better able the NCT is to carry on its vital campaigning work and provide much-needed parent services. If you think you might enjoy helping to organise fun, local events to help raise money, please contact Alison on 0870 066 6378 or email us for more details.

Area Rep
If you would like a small role that concentrates on your local area, how about considering becoming an Area Rep? We have divided the South Gloucestershire branch area up into twelve smaller local areas, each with about 10 members in, and each has its own area rep who acts as a point of contact between the members in their area and the branch committee, improving communication within the branch by feeding back comments and suggestions from members to the committee and vice versa. Primarily they aim to make new members feel welcome, making sure they are aware of the services we offer locally and invite them to local social events. We still need a volunteer to be the area rep for the Yate area. It shouldn’t be a large time commitment on a regular basis unless you want to be really involved. For more details about what this role involves please email us.

Coffee Morning hosts
If you think you might enjoy inviting local parents into your home either on a regular or occasional basis, please let us know. We already have regular Coffee Mornings in Emerson’s Green, and The Stokes (including Bradley Stoke and Stoke Gifford), both of which would welcome new people to join the host rota, and we would also like to extend the availability of this valuable event to parents in other parts of our branch area. Contact us for more details.

Volunteer Bank
If you think you could spare just an hour or two on an occasional basis, and would you like to help us in reaching out to and supporting more parents and parents-to-be in the area, we would love to hear from you. The occasional tasks you might be asked to consider doing could include helping out at a Nearly New Sale in your area, putting up posters at your local shop, toddler group, or nursery, offering a friendly ear to a struggling new mum in the next street, contacting some potential advertisers, either by phone, letter or in person, or just attending a nearby social event, to give the organiser some moral support! By signing up to the Volunteer Bank, you are NOT committing yourself to take on all (or even any at all!) of the tasks you might be asked to do. If you would like to add your name to the Bank, please contact Emma on 0870 220 5819 or by email
