Nearly New Sale

Nearly New Sale Autumn/Winter 2010

Saturday 9th October

Oasis Leisure Centre, Swindon

11am – 1pm

Seller registration is now open

To sell at the Nearly New Sale you will need to purchase a seller’s pack.  To apply for one please print off an application form, found at the bottom of this page.

Complete the application form at the bottom of this page and send it with a cheque made payable to NCT Swindon Branch, for £2.50 to:

NNS Sellers Packs
32 Butleigh Road
Swindon
SN25 2AA

In order to ensure that you get your pack in time for the sale, we ask that all applications reach us by Monday 4th October.

We cannot guarantee that you will receive your pack if we receive your application form/cheque after this date.

How does it work?

The process runs very simply and is explained in plenty of detail in the seller's guide, and is summarised as follows:

  • Look at what you have for sale and check items are on the list of things you can sell.  Please note that this is an Autumn/Winter sale and we will only be selling clothes of the season.
  • Register as a seller by filling in the registration form from the bottom of this page.  You will then be emailed your seller’s pack in return
  • You complete your seller’s list which automatically populates your labels.
  • You attach your labels to all your items
  • You bring all your items on the day of the sale, together with your registration form and volunteers put them out on tables / rails for you - you don't have to wait around to sell your items (but you can join the queue and come and bag a bargain for yourself!)
  • People buy your things and at the till we cut off and keep the label
  • At the end of the sale volunteers put unsold items back in to bags/boxes
  • You come along to collect any unsold items
  • We add up all the labels with your number on so we know how much you sold and send you a cheque/pay you via paypal for the total value, less the commission which goes to the NCT to help us continue our charitable work

Commission

We will deduct 30% of the sale price as commission.  A flat fee of £15 will be taken on items sold for £50 and over.

Sellers who also help out for the full day of the sale will benefit from a reduced rate of 20% commission.

Frequently-asked Questions

For Sellers

Q: Why are the seller’s packs electronic?

A: We have trialled electronic packs for the past few sales and have received a huge amount of positive feedback.  The packs are easier and quicker to complete and there are less errors/discrepancies made on labels due to labels been self populated from the sellers’ sheet.  Because labels and sellers’ sheets are printed it also makes calculating your sales proceeds at the end of the sale easier, therefore, helping to reduce inaccuracies.

Q: How do the electronic packs work?

A: Upon receiving your application form and cheque, we will email you the spreadsheet.  You then list your items together with the price and this automatically creates the labels for you to attach to your items.  You will be sent your coloured card in the post for you to print your labels on.Once your pack is completed, you must also e-mail the pack back to the NCT so that we can use it to calculate your sale proceeds. In order to use an electronic pack you must have access to Microsoft Excel or Open Office (which can be downloaded for free) and have a printer to be able to print your registration form to sign it, your list of items and your labels on the card provided.

Q: I do not have Excel, how can I get a pack?

A: You can download Open Office for free which will let you open the Excel spreadsheet.

Q: I do not have a printer, can I still sell?

A:  If you do not have access to a printer you can still sell.  Please email nns@swindonnct.org.uk

Q: Why have I been sent coloured card?

A: The coloured card makes it easier for us to sort the labels after the sale and helps us to ensure we send you the correct sale proceeds for your items.

Q: I have more than 25 items of clothes to sell.  What can I do?

A: You can sell up to 25 items of clothes per pack.  Please feel free to purchase more than one pack and remember that items can be grouped together e.g. one outfit on one hanger.  Items such as bibs and vests also sell better if sold in packs.

Q: Why can I only sell Autumn/Winter clothes?

A: We always have a large amount of unsold clothes at the end of the sale, this is largely due to people wanting clothes of the season.  You will have the chance to sell Spring/Summer clothes in our March sale.

Q: How will I be paid my sales proceeds?

A: We will be trialling Pay Pal for this sale.  If you would like to receive your sale proceeds via Pay Pal we will need your pay pal linked email address on the application form.  If you do not have a pay pal account we can still send you your proceeds by cheque.  If you opt for Pay Pal you do not need to include a SAE envelope with your registration form.We will deduct 30% commission from your sales proceeds.  This is due to increase in March 2011 to 35%.  Volunteers who help for the full day will benefit from paying only 20% commission.

To volunteer download the volunteer form at the bottom of this page.

For a more detailed guide to selling please download our Seller’s Guide at the bottom of this page.

For Buyers

Q: Can I browse and buy things if I am not a member?

A: Certainly, please do come along and bag a bargain. In line with our goals to support all parents across Leeds and surrounding areas, we welcome anyone to come along a save loads of money on those essential items which can otherwise be so expensive.

Q: How many people go to the sale?

A: For the last couple of sales we had over 200 sellers, and in March 2010 over 500 buyers came through the doors.

Q: I've heard that I should turn up early to get the best deals, does that mean if I am late there won't be anything left?

A: Do get there early, but if you can't there should certainly be loads of opportunities to get some great items at fantastic prices. Sellers who also want to buy tend to go straight to the queue after dropping stuff off, so the lines start building from about an hour before the doors open. If you have a large purchase in mind (such as a buggy, cot, highchair or garden toys) you should really get there before the doors open if you want the best choice. Although you might still find something suitable later, for obvious reasons the best deals go first.  Remember, if you volunteer to help on the day, you benefit from the pre-sale shop.

Q: How will I manage to carry all the things I want to buy?

A: If you are getting a few large things and lots of smaller items, your best bet will be to pay for the largest things then go back round again for the smaller stuff. That way you are making sure to get the most savings compared to the high street. There's nothing to stop you coming through several times, but unfortunately we can't put things on one side for you, in fairness to all our customers You will be supplied with a large clear plastic bag to act as a shopping basket. Please don't use your own bags to carry things before you have paid for them, though. Once you have paid for your items, we have a limited number of carrier bags available or the option to purchase an NCT branded reusable bag for £1.

Q: How can I pay?

A:  We now have the facility to accept debit/credit cards and of course, we accept cheques (made payable to NCT Swindon Branch) or cash.

Help us promote this event to make it our biggest ever

In order to help us to get the most out of the Nearly New Sale, why not print out one of our posters (link below) and put it up where you think people might be interested to hear about a great place to find all sorts of bargains under one roof for people with (or expecting) young children.

If you are a seller, this is a great way to make sure we get even more buyers Just one poster in your office staff room, local cafe or child's nursery could be seen by dozens or more people - even if they are not interested they might mention it to someone who is.
