Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding counsellors

We have two breastfeeding counsellors who have breastfed their own babies and are trained to help mothers establish and continue breastfeeding. They are flexible in their attitude to infant feeding, and are positive and supportive of the feeding choices a mother may make.

The counsellors visit the Winchester hospital twice a week and can either be seen at B.A.B.I.E.S (Babies And Breastfeeding, Information, Encouragement, Support) group on Wednesday mornings ( NOT 24th or 31st DECEMBER) open 9.30am until midday, at Lanterns Children’s Centre, Bereweeke Road, Winchester (no appointment needed, just turn up) or contacted by phone if a mother is in need of help and support.

You can also email our breastfeeding counsellors on bfcounsellors@winchester-nct.org.uk

In addition to this the NCT runs a UK wide Breastfeeding Line which is open from 8am to 10pm daily. The number is 0300 33 00 771.

Our counsellors are fully trained and updated. They are not medically qualified, so please take any medical questions to your health professional.

How breastfeeding friendly is Winchester?

In 2007, Winchester NCT approached 45 local establishments in order to find out their views on breastfeeding, with varying degrees of success. Our information includes places that have said that they welcome breastfeeding mothers. They were also asked if they had anywhere to breastfeed in private, if the mother so wished, if the company had a written policy on breastfeeding and about baby changing facilities.

If you'd like a copy of the list, please email on the enquiries email below. Also please let us know about any experiences (good or bad) you have had in Winchester and area on enquiries@winchester-nct.org.uk
