Thrush
Fungal infection that can affect the mouth, vagina or nipples. Often a side-effect of taking antibiotics. Sometimes mothers and babies pass thrush to each other breastfeeding. It can cause discomfort during feeding and can be seen as white patches on the baby’s gums and cheeks. Mothers can experience sore nipples and possibly pain within the breast especially after feeds. Both mother and baby then need treatment, but the mother can continue to breastfeed.
