Lactose Intolerance
This is an inability to digest the milk sugar, lactose, with symptoms of nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and weight loss. It is caused by an individual’s lack of the enzyme lactase (which breaks down sugars in milk). It is very unusual in babies although partial lactose intolerance can be a temporary response to an infection.
