Pelvis

The pelvis is the bony structure located at the bottom of your spine. It is made up of four bones - the two hip-bones, the sacrum and the coccyx - which join together to make a circle, or ‘girdle’.

A woman’s pelvis is adapted for childbearing, being wider than a man’s. The joint at the front of the pelvis is normally very inflexible, but during late pregnancy it softens and becomes more flexible, allowing it to expand during labour for the baby’s head to pass through.
