NCT Birth Companions Orientation Programme
Who is this Programme for?
If you have not already taken a Diploma course with the NCT to become an antenatal teacher, breastfeeding counsellor or postnatal leader, the training to become an NCT Birth Companion comes in two parts. The first part is called the Orientation Programme. You do NOT need to be an NCT member in order to apply for the Orientation Programme. If you are accepted onto the Programme, you will then need to become a member.
The Orientation Programme prepares you for the NCT Birth Companions course. Once you have taken the Orientation Programme, you will have the basic knowledge and skills which are prerequisites for the NCT Birth Companions course.
What does the Orientation Programme consist of?
The Orientation programme consists of 5 study days which run between January and May. These days are run on Saturdays or over a weekend, either at the University of Worcester or at NCT Office in Acton, London.
How much does it cost?
The Orientation Programme costs £400, payable in 4 monthly instalments.
What happens after the Orientation Programme?
When you have successfully completed the three assignments for the Orientation Programme, you will be awarded 20 credits by the University of Worcester at Level 4 and you will be able to enrol for the NCT Birth Companions Course.
How can I enrol for the Orientation Programme?
You need to attend an Expressions of Interest day. These are held in different parts of the country during November. At the Expressions of Interest day, you will have the chance to discuss the role of an NCT Birth Companion, find out about the Orientation course and assessment procedures, and meet the Orientation Programme Tutors and a qualified NCT Birth Companion. You will have a brief 10 minutes interview so that you and the Tutors have an opportunity to get to know each other a little better.
The dates for the Expressions of Interest days, 2011, are:
Friday 4th November (NCT Office, Acton, London) 11am – 3.30pm
Monday 7th November (Preston, Lancs) 11am – 3.30pm
Wednesday 9th November (Newcastle) 11am – 3.30pm
Saturday 12th November (University of Worcester) 11am – 3.30pm
If you wish to attend, please download and fill out the form in the "related documents" box on the right.
There is a £20 fee to confirm your place.
Bookings will commence in September 2011 via the NCT website.
