In response to research published in the BMJ which found that pregnant women are more likely to quit smoking if financial rewards are offered as part of a treatment plan, Rosemary Dodds, Senior Policy Adviser, NCT, says:

“Giving up smoking is a real challenge so any scheme to help motivate or support women to quit while pregnant is to be welcomed. More generally, women can ask their midwives about help available to stop smoking, including their local NHS Stop Smoking Service.

“The good news is that as soon as pregnant women stop smoking, both mother and baby will be better off - carbon monoxide and chemicals will clear from the body and oxygen levels return to normal.”
