FAQs
Is my personal information secure?
Your security is our top priority. That's why all our members have their own ‘My Page’ page. This lets you contact other members without revealing your name or contact details until you've identified a potential swapper; it's up to you when to give them your full details.
How do I know my home is safe?
The house swap register is based on mutual trust and respect. The simple answer to this question is 'You don't'. However, there have been very few instances reported of damage and no reports of theft. An important thing to remember is that your home is probably much safer while you are away as it's not empty.
Who pays the bills?
Pay your mortgage and utilities as you normally would and agree beforehand who should pay expenses such as telephone calls, milk and paper bills.
What about home insurance?
Most home insurance policies will cover house swapping as it is generally classed as having guests in your home. Please check with your individual insurance company to find out if you are covered. The NCT’s insurance company, Layton Blackham, can provide individual cover for your house swap. Please contact Phil Newman on 02476237986 or phil.newman@layton-blackham.co.uk for a quote.
Would people want to visit my area?
Members often seek after popular tourist areas but there are members who are looking to swap in particular areas to visit friends and family rather than for tourist attractions. We can never guarantee that everyone will be able to arrange a swap as it all depends on the member’s needs and how flexible you are on dates and locations.
Are the homes on the register modest or expensive?
There is a large range of homes on the register from small flats in the city to large homes in rural towns.
