Our 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place on Saturday 13 October at Central Hall Westminster in London

AGM attendees

The morning kicked off with a welcome from NCT's President, Seána Talbot and Chief Executive, Nick Wilkie.

NCT members also heard from Dr Tracey Cooper MBE, a leader in the field of midwifery. Tracey is currently Head of Midwifery at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In her presentation she spoke about the challenges for midwives today and the importance of continuity of carer - pregnant women seeing the same midwife throughout their care and the positive impact of this.

During the formal business, Jess Figueras, Chair of NCT's Board, gave an overview of 2017-18 and all that NCT has achieved, as well as acknowledging the challenges ahead. You can view a copy of the approved annual report and accounts.

We also welcomed three new elected trustees to the Board: Clarissa Ayo-Dele Smith, Heather Trickey and Peter Brown.

As well as approving the 2017-18 AGM minutes and annual report, members voted on a special resolution. This was to amend NCT’s articles to enable the transfer of ownership of the Midwives Information and Resource Service (MIDIRS) to the Royal College of Midwives (RCM). We are delighted that members passed this motion through and we will now spend the coming months working with the RCM to make arrangements for the transfer. You can read more about this in our press statement.

Watch this video where Cathy Ashwin, Head of MIDIRS and Caroline Flint, NCT Trustee, explain why they think transferring MIDIRS to the RCM is such a good opportunity.
