From deciding where to give birth, to knowing when your contractions are really getting underway, NCT antenatal courses are a great way to explore all your questions about labour and birth, and meet other mums and dads in your local area.

Bath & District NCT Practitioners offer Antenatal (Signature and Essentials) courses at venues across Bath including Salvation Army in Bath City Centre, Weston Methodist Church, New Oriel Hall, Southdown Methodist Church and St Luke's Church Hall.

Our local teachers are Maxine, Noreen, Chaya, Michaela, Katy, Emma and Katheryn.

Most courses include a session with a qualified breastfeeding counsellor and a class at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath.

NCT antenatal courses are available in different formats. Please contact Carrie Anne Race for more information and your due date at 020 8752 2493 / to discuss the following:

•Daytime or evening

•Weekly sessions over a 6-8 week period

•Shorter intensive courses

We recommend booking as early as possible, as our courses book up very quickly. As a charity we offer generous discounted rates on all our course fees depending on level of income and/or if claiming certain benefits.

Most of our courses are run during the evenings and/or weekends. Women only sessions are often held during weekday daytimes.  For more information about your rights to take time off work visit the UK Government website.

NCT has been providing information and support that focus on your needs as a parent for over 50 years, so we are perfectly placed to help you to prepare for the birth of your baby.

Reliable information that empowers you to make your own decisions

Focus on what you want to discuss, with plenty of time for questions.

Relaxed and informal, with usually no more than 8 pregnant women and their birth partners.

Birth partners are central to our courses, whether this is your partner, a member of your family or a friend. Our antenatal course leaders and breastfeeding counsellors undergo a thorough training with the NCT graduating with a diploma from Bedfordshire University or the University of Worcester, although they are not required to be medically qualified. All course leaders and counsellors are expected to keep up to date with the latest developments in maternity care and attend 2 study days per year. They must also register with the NCT every year. Their role is to offer support, information, practical skills and resources to help parents make informed choices for themselves and their babies. They do not offer medical advice and parents are asked to take any questions about the medical care of mother and baby to their midwife, health visitor or doctor.

"The day you give birth 500,000 women around the world will be giving birth, too.

Imagine all of you becoming mothers together. ” - Pam England, Birthing from Within

We believe pregnancy, birth and early parenthood is a life-enhancing experience, but it can also be challenging.

We aim to help pregnant women and their birth partners to develop practical, physical, and emotional support strategies to help them though labour, birth and beyond.

Our courses focus on providing you with the information and skills you need to make your own decisions about your labour and birth. Some of the topics we cover include:

•Realistic information on what happens during birth

•Practical skills for labour, including breathing, massage and birth positions

•Your pain management choices

•What to expect in the early days with your baby

NCT courses are open to all parents and parents-to-be, including young parents, women without a partner, same-sex couples and surrogacy couples. Women who are not attending with a partner are very welcome to bring someone else along to classes, for example a friend or family member. We are able to offer 1:1 classes in certain circumstances. Please contact Carrie Anne for details (email:

“The classes had a great atmosphere for asking ‘daft’ questions and not feeling silly.  It was really sociable and we covered a lot of practical info (labour positions, birth process etc), but also talked through emotions and how to deal with them.  I came away feeling I’d be able to deal with labour and birth and to trust my instincts."  - Local mum, Bath

As the UK’s largest charity for parents, we know how important it is to get support from other mums and dads as well as great information. We plan our courses around due date
