NCT Committee Meeting Notes - September
A positive, vibrant and ideas filled meeting-here is a short round up of subjects discussed.
* The next QE "Maternity Services Liason Committee" meeting will be held on the evening of 7th September. Two of our lovely volunteers will be attending, with a focus on discussing mums experiences of "Bounty" packs and the in hospital photography service they provide. Do you have any feedback either way you would like to contribute? Please email Kat or Liz to let them know. Similarly email them if you would like any more details or to attend yourself.
*Kat had a recent successful meeting with Tescos Hardwick, and we are currently waiting for a date when we can use their communal community space (foyer area in between Dobbies entrance and Tescos)to promote West Norfolk NCT. We also talked about promoting the classes and potentially running Refresher courses, and the supported payment service available to low income parents. We talked about co insisting this with some fund raising. Ideas included a sponsored excercise bike ride; and pedometer races-so watch this space! Any other ideas along this route welcome.
* Tables are filling up fast for our next Downham Market NNS on 17th October with over half of our£6 tables already taken. We discussed different volunteer positions needed to run th event, and cakes to be made! All now covered and we can't wait!
* Our wonderful Bumps & Beyond magazine is now out and published. Members should receive this week, if haven't already. Antony and Anna did a great job of handing out to volunteers to deliver to various local doctors, children's centres, libraries and wherever else we can think of to reach as many West Norfolk mums as possible. Well done to Rachel on her first issue-brilliant
NCT Committee Meeting Notes - July
Glimpses of a proper summer are finally upon us so welcome to the summer branch news. Following our Annual Members’ Meeting at the beginning of May we have a revamped team of very willing and able volunteers with our new branch co-ordinator Kat at the helm. Kat is full of ideas to help our branch go from strength to strength and will no doubt be an inspiration to the rest of us. This will be particularly important as we are stepping up with our fundraising campaign with plans for various social events such as a pond dipping family day and a summer picnic; keep checking the website and facebook page for details. We hope to raise enough to provide a really useful resource perhaps for the hospital and well as ensuring the long term sustainability of our regular events to support as many parents as possible.
As the now fully established First Aid Course Co-ordinator, Rachel Earl will be organising a further course in September following another resounding success in March. More fundraising will of course continue by way of the Nearly New Sales and a big thumps up to everyone that came and helped with the last sale in April. We have reports of record table takings and a generally fantastic day. Thanks so much to Emma and the team of NNS volunteers who will now be led by Suzie ready for the next instalment in October.
Any left over clothes may now be put to very good use in a scheme Alix is piloting with a local health visitor who sees first hand parents who are very much in need of support in terms of actual resources for their babies. Alix hopes to gather as many baby and pre-school childrens’ clothes as possible and with our health visiting teams help in Hunstanton, distribute them to where they are really needed. If you have any clothes (or even items such as baby blankets) that could help, please contact us, as this is really what it is all about.
We were sorry to see the end of #fitmummy as many of the attendees return to work, but give huge thanks to Kate Roberts for running this which was, by all accounts, brilliant fun but also a massive boost for the pot.
We have new helpers in the Tums to Tots team so thank you to Corynn and Laura for volunteering, but also to Sally, Mary, Heidi and everyone else who works so hard to support Alix in providing a group which is there every week, come rain or shine.
Perhaps inspired by our last ‘dads’ issue, we now have a dad volunteering by taking over the website. So a big thanks to Anthony and let’s hope you are the first of many! We also of course have a changeover for the Newsletter Editor – a warm welcome to Rachel and good luck in taking over.
Please continue to check out our website and the NCT West Norfolk Branch facebook page to find out about up and coming events. Also, email us at WestNorfolk @nct.org.uk for an invite to join the egroup to receive our rather brilliant weekly diary emails.
Welcome to the springtime branch news! With a spring in our step, the West Norfolk branch continues to gain momentum. We are very pleased to see the return of #fitmummy to the diary thanks to Kate Roberts after a much deserved break over the worst of winter. Kate will host the exercise class in Sandringham on good weather days and there is an indoor venue as an alternative. Our other regular events continue to offer support, information and fun to parents and their little ones. Alix reports that numbers are up again at Bumps and Babies, and Tums to Tots is hopefully seeing a resurgence after a quiet period – we hope there is a new wave of little ones and mums, dads or grandparents on their way, perhaps not venturing before during the worst of the winter weather. Sally continues to host the Sandringham walks, always with good company, and Kirsty has now become a point of contact at the gym pit meets, having stepped down as treasurer after three years of balancing the books. We thank Kirsty for all her hard work and are very pleased that she continues to volunteer in another way. She leaves the finances in the very capable hands of Kate Roberts.
Louise, our ante-natal class teacher is also sadly taking a back seat for the next few months to give her more time to dedicate to her own family and work. Louise has been invaluable in her role and has set many class attendees on the path to parenthood feeling much better prepared and reassured for birth and beyond, plus helping them to make life-long friends for them and their children. Thank you Louise, and we hope you will continue to be part of our branch.
Our Nearly New Sale team has been very busy recently and held another successful sale at the Gaywood Church Rooms in January. Everyone reported good sales and I personally can vouch for the excellent refreshments counter. We even made the local press! Thanks so much to Kat, Emma and everyone else who helped out or held a stall. We hope the success will continue with the next sale in April.
Another Paediatric First Aid Course is being organised by Rachel Earle for the 22nd March after the first one was so popular and all reports back so positive. Contact us to see if there are any places left if you are interested.
Finally, Kate J has taken on perhaps the most important task of organising mums nights out, the last one on the 26th February was a great success. Let us know if you would like to join us.
Others including our esteemed editor Amy will also have less time to dedicate to NCT in the near future as other life challenges are met so please consider whether you can spare any time to volunteer which you can do in one of any number of ways. Amy took over the role at a time in her life when many new parents can barely make it out of their pyjamas and has done a superb job with Bumps and Beyond. Further, our glorious leader Rachel will be stepping down at the AMM in May. We thank Rachel for all her hard work and she will no doubt pave the way for the smooth transition into the role for whoever takes over.
Our NCT branch seems to be ticking over nicely at the moment with a good range of events in the diary and some enthusiastic new volunteers recently joining the team. However, as I'm sure you appreciate we usually only hold on to our volunteers for a few years at most, so we always appreciate offers of help, however large or small. If you would like to get involved then why not join us at our Annual Members Meeting on Thursday 18th April!
Our nearly new sale in Downham Market was a great success - definitely the most well attended to date with lots of bargains to be had and our sellers pocketing good profits as well! Now it's time to turn our minds towards Christmas with NCT celebrations over the next few weeks for children and grown-ups too!
The weather has really not been on our side this year but fortunately the rain clouds did not dispell the enthusiasm of all the participants of this years Big Push. This fundraising walk around Sandringham was really well attended and everyone really enjoyed the extra challenge of battling up muddy slopes with thir prams and pushchairs! Hopefully we will have raised a good amount of money for the NCT as well. A big thanks to Emma for organising the day and watch out for our picture in the Lynn News! Unfortunately the decision was made to postpone the Cheeky Monkeys Tea Party as no one likes soggy sandwiches - we're hoping to reschedule for a beautiful sunny summers day coming soon!
Despite poor weather and a new venue in Downham Market, our third nearly new sale had a good turn out. There were plenty of bargains to be had as well as some excellent refreshments, enabling us to raise a good amount for the NCT. Thanks go to Clare for all of her hard work in organising this event and we hope to see you again at our next NNS in the autumn.
Happy New Year to all! We had a very successful end to 2011 with a well attended Christmas party at Tums to Tots with lots of yummy christmas foods for children and adults alike. A group of us also enjoyed a Christmas girls night out at Franky and Benny's.
Welcome and thank you to our new branch ream members and volunteers, Carly, Emma, Pippa and Kirsty who have stepped forward to help with the newsletter and running of some of our groups. We still need more help though so please let us know if you would like to get involved.
Advance notice of the annual members meeting to be held on Monday 28th November at 20.00. Watch out for your invitation arriving in the post shortly. This is an opportunity for all members to hear about the branch's achievements in 2011 and participate in shaping plans for 2012. Also a great chance to find out more if you would like to get involved. At the moment we are desperate for new people to join the branch team in order to keep the branch running and growing, as it has done over recent years.
Following a very successful baby music session with Helen Batteley from Music and Movement, we have booked her for another session at Tums to Tots on Friday 7th October.
Our first Cheeky Monkeys Tea Party was held this weekend and proved a real hit. Lots of families met up to enjoy a picnic in the most perfect weather. There was a raffle with some brilliant prizes thanks to sponsorship by Fisher Price and the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks Claire for organising another very successful event.
It's all change here as we are very sorry to see our Membership Secretary, Sharon Pease leaving for pastures new. Many of you will know Sharon as a very active supporter of our events over the past couple of years and it has been great having her on the branch team, However, Watford is calling and we wish Sharon, Steve and Megan much luck and happiness. Thanks for everything Sharon.
We also say farewell to TJ, Matt, Ella-Jane and Charlotte, and wish them lots of luck in their new home.
Our fantastic Chair, Jennifer McKinlay has decided it is time to hand over the position. Jennifer has worked with huge enthusiasm to really get the branch up and running. We are all so gratful for the time and effort she has put int the role. Thankyou Jennifer we are very sorry to see you go.
Alix Birks has gallantly stepped forward to take over as Chair until our Annual Members Meeting at Christmas when we review team roles. Alix is about to be very busy with the arrival of a new baby so we particulalry appreciate her taking up the position.
Our new postnatal group is continuing to go very well and Nicola is doing a great job facilitating it. It is lovely that so many of you are staying involved with the branch once your babies have arrived.
Future dates announced:
- Cheeky Monkeys Tea Party, Sunday 3rd July 2011 at Sandringham Estate
- Baby Fair, Sunday April 22nd 2012 at Knights Hill Hotel, King's Lynn
This first quarter of the year has been a really busy one for the branch. We held our first Nearly New Sale........and survived! NCT Nearly New Sales are legendry for being well organised and offering high quality goods so a lot of effort went into making sure that we maintained the expected standard. We managed to raise over £250 for the branch so a big thank you to Claire Bunton, our Fundraising Co-ordinator who, yet again, made sure it was a successful event.
We have also been spending our Awards for All grant and the new equipment for the Tums to Tots group has started arriving. We're really pleased with the deliveries so far and think we have some very lucky little people at Tums!
The branch is hoping to offer a library service soon. Books will be available to NCT members and will cover a wide range of pregnancy and parenting issues. We are still sorting on the final details of how the lending service will work so watch this space.
Our Breastfeeding Counsellor, Sally has started her course and is now up to her neck in tutorials, text books and course work.
After nine fantastic issues of our branch newsletter, our newsletter editor Alice has decided to stand down. Alice has done a great job and the rest of the branch team would like extend their thanks to her for this. We are planning to split the role into a few smaller chunks and so now have opportunities for anyone wanting to get involved.
