Our locally run Antenatal classes are designed to help you focus on your pregnancy and get you ready for labour and birth. They're also a great place to meet other parents-to-be. Our classes are booked according to your due date, so you'll get to meet a group of parents whose babies will be born at a similar time.
Our teachers liaise with local midwives and have a good relationship with the local maternity services teams. East Lancashire is very lucky to have a fabulous Birth Centre in Blackburn (opened 6th September 2010) as well as a new Mother and Baby unit which opened in Burnley in November 2010.
Our course format varies, we currently run courses at Springwood Childrens Centre, Whalley.

NCT Postnatal Ward Service - we have a team of trained peer supporters volunteering on the ward supporting new mums with breastfeeding you can't miss their fabulous lime green polo shirts.
NCT Telephone Service - we call all new mums living in east lancashire who are breastfeeding when they are discharged from the maternity units. We call to see how they are, and offer support, if mums need another call we will arrange to call them back and offfer as much telephone/text support as they need.
NCT Home Visit Service - we have a small team of trained peer supporters who are available to home visit breastfeeding mums within 6 weeks of birth. Mums can be referred to the home visit service by the NCT telephone team, midwives and health visitors.
All these teams offer evidence based mum2mum support to breastfeeding families with their new arrivals, we can share lots of information and sign post mums to the support they need.
All NCT Peer supporters have an OCN accredited qualification in breastfeeding peer support, have regular support and attend annual skills updates.
