Sling Library

We are sorry to say that the sling library is currently suspended while we find a new volunteer to relaunch the library in line with the new guidelines. Please get in touch if this is something you feel you could volunteer to do for our local community.

Are you thinking of using a sling to carry your newborn but are unsure which one to buy?
Or have you used a wrap but want to move on for your growing baby?

Mum with baby sling

Our sling library could be just what you are looking for!

Carrying your newborn or older baby in a sling - or 'babywearing' as it is also known - is a fantastic way of bonding with your child, not to mention a very practical means of transporting them. But with a huge array of slings on the market, it can be hard to know which to choose: how do you know which one will suit you and your baby best? Well, our sling library is here to help!

What is a sling library?

We have a selection of slings including wraps (both stretchy and woven), soft-structured carriers and ring slings. You are able to come along and try out the slings - find out how to put them on, which work best for you and your baby and the different carries each type of sling is useful for.

What does it cost?

Trying slings during a session is free. Ali, our local babywearing consultant, is on hand to give information and share tips. Her weighted doll allows you to get a feel for carrying a baby in a sling. Hire charges will be £5 per fortnight which includes demonstrations and help from Ali when making your selection, so you know exactly how to use your sling. We will require a deposit on hire for the cost of replacing the sling but will accept a cheque which we will only cash if the sling is not returned or is damaged.

Where is it held?

Our sling library will visit our Corbridge Bumps and Babies group on the second and fourth Friday afternoons of the month, between 1 and 3pm in Corbridge Parish Hall, St Helen's Street, Corbridge. Bumps and Babies requests a donation of £2 per family towards hall hire, and refreshments. The Library also visits the Babes in Arms @ Wheelbirks sessions on the first and third Weds of each month. Please follow us on Facebook for updates and to check before travelling.

Ali is a trained Babywearing Consultant and can also offer private one to one consultations at your house or hers by arrangement. Please email

Which slings are available?

There are many different types of sling available, from stretchy wraps suitable for newborns, the Close Caboo Carrier, woven slings, and buckle carriers such as a Connecta, Boba 4G, Beco Soleil, Ergo, Manduca and a Babyhawk Mei Tai. Do get in touch to discuss your needs and to find out what is currently available.
