NCT Courses and Covid-19

Covid-19 price promise: If some or all of your course takes place online due to Covid-19, we promise to give you a course price discount related to how much of the course is online.

Courses until the end of May 2021 are online to bring you local, fully interactive and inclusive courses when Covid-19 infection rates are high and official guidance for pregnant women remains in place – a decision supported by the Royal College of Midwives.

"Antenatal classes can be incredibly helpful in preparing for childbirth and parenthood – and for meeting and sharing experiences with other parents-to-be. Online classes, like those offered by NCT, are the safest and most practical option currently and still offer those opportunities, even if the experience is different to getting together in person."

- Royal College of Midwives

We are taking decisions on whether courses from June 2021 onwards will be delivered online or in-person on a month-by month-basis.  We are updating course information on our website and contacting you if have booked a course place explaining why, so you know how your course will run 6-10 weeks before it begins.

How we make decisions about the delivery of NCT courses

As the UK’s largest parenting charity and leader in the field of antenatal education, we make informed decisions with full consideration to the current and any (confirmed) future UK government restrictions and official guidance and the most reliable research findings and data regarding pregnancy and Covid-19.

We also consult closely with our colleagues at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and Royal College of Midwives (RCM).

It’s our charitable mission to support all parents to have the most positive experiences of pregnancy, birth and the early days, so we will:

  • act promptly and transparently, informing you how and why your course will be delivered as early as practically possible.
  • always make decisions that offer the best experiences available whilst protecting you, our parents, your babies and our NCT course leaders.

About Anne

Anne lives in Redhill with her husband and teenage children. Being close to the M25/M23, she is ideally located to attend births in Surrey and South West London, and Sussex and Kent. She is happy to drive to clients approximately an hour away or take the 30 minute train journey into central London.

Anne has given birth both in hospital and at home and is passionate about supporting women wherever they choose to give birth. She realises how lucky she was to be supported in 1998 at her homebirth by the same midwife who had cared for her during her pregnancies in 1993 and 1995. That support from someone she knew and trusted made all the difference to how she felt about the care she received.

Anne works as an NCT Antenatal teacher in both Surrey and South London and has taught over 1000 expectant couples since her first course in 1999. Anne works very closely with local midwives in her role as Chair of the Maternity Services Liaison Committee for Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Trust and has the highest regard for midwives. She sits on various maternity committees as well as being involved in other local projects, and is known to many local hospital staff. One of the benefits of booking Anne as your doula is that you will have the chance to get to know her over time giving you the reassurance of having a familiar person at your birth, something not always available with the NHS. Partners value Anne’s presence which enables them to support the labouring woman whilst having someone there to support them.

Anne works in partnership with other NCT doulas who are also on call for her clients. They also provide cover for her NCT Antenatal classes so that Anne can leave if required when “the call” comes. All her clients meet her back-up NCT doula and are able to contact her by phone in the event that they could not reach Anne.

Anne is an NCT Antenatal Teacher and NCT doula.

Anne will provide support by:

  • Meeting with couples three times prior to the birth, in order for couples to explain their wishes and make plans for their birth.
  • Unlimited contact by phone, text and email from time of booking until 6 weeks after the birth of your babies.
  • Being on call 24/7 for the two weeks before and after the due date.
  • Offering a further meeting to talk about the birth, arranged a week or two afterwards.

"Thanks to all the support I got from Anne before and during the labour I gave birth quickly and avoided the drama of my first birth. We left the hospital when my daughter was 10 hours old without even seeing the post natal ward! I can recommend having an NCT doula with you during labour regardless whether your partner is there with you or not and whether this is your first or fifth baby!"

- Anna and Lukasz, parents of Aggie.

"Thank you so much for your help and support. We really have no words to say how grateful we are. Thanks to you our baby’s arrival was perfect and exactly as we dreamed."

- Severica and Stuart, parents of Sienna
