NCT Courses and Covid-19

We are updating course information on our website and contacting course bookers as early as we can before courses begin, explaining whether courses will run in-person or online.

How we make decisions about the delivery of NCT courses

As the UK’s largest parenting charity and leader in the field of antenatal education, we make informed decisions with full consideration to the current and any (confirmed) future UK government restrictions and official guidance and the most reliable research findings and data regarding pregnancy and Covid-19.

We also consult closely with our colleagues at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and Royal College of Midwives (RCM).

It’s our charitable mission to support all parents to have the most positive experiences of pregnancy, birth and the early days, so we will:

  • always make decisions that offer the best experiences available whilst protecting you, our parents, your babies and our NCT course leaders.
  • act promptly and transparently, informing you how and why your course will be delivered as early as practically possible.

Lin is currently a student NCT doula. An important part of training for this role is that Lin is required to support a woman or couple through birth with the support of the NCT doula tutors.

Lin is based in Lytham St Annes on the Fylde coast and is happy to cover the areas from Fleetwood to Preston including Blackpool and Fylde. The fee for Lin to support you has been appropriately set to recognise the fact that she is a student.

About Lin

Lin is a loving mother to three daughters, Nana to five grandchildren and in her final year of studying to be an NCT doula as part of her foundation degree.

She has accumulated great life experience and training to confidently support women and their families to have the best possible birth experience.

Her approach is calm, warm, non-judgemental, and understanding. She offers experience in supporting women in both midwife-led units, hospital delivery suites, water births, straightforward births and all forms of induction.

Lin will dedicate herself to supporting, reassuring and encouraging you through your amazing journey to parenthood.

Training in antenatal and postnatal education has made her passionate in supporting your birth preparations and helping you make your own confident decisions for your birth and afterwards as a new family. She will also be able to provide continuous emotional and physical support during your labour and birth, with coping techniques, massage, breathing, relaxation and assisting with positions.

After your birth, Lin will be there to support and reassure as you gain your confidence as a new family.

Qualifications

Lin is in her final year of the NCT degree ‘Birth and Beyond’. This will qualify her as an antenatal teacher and doula.

Lin is also studying the ‘New baby, New family’ postnatal course at university.

Practicalities

Lin will provide support by:

  • Offering an initial meeting so you can decide if she is the right doula to support you. There will be no obligation to proceed.
  • Providing support by meeting with you and your partner (if you have one) twice before the birth. This will help establish a trusting relationship and give opportunity to talk through your birth options preferences and any concerns you may have.
  • Being on call for you 24/7 from 38 weeks until after the birth of your baby.
  • Offering continuous support during your labour and birth at your chosen birthplace.
  • Staying with you afterwards, helping to ensure you and your new family are comfortable and settled.
  • Offering support with feeding.
  • Supporting your first weeks as a new family by telephone, zoom or email and offering a meeting with you around 6 weeks following your birth to talk through your birth experience and signpost you to any additional services you may require.
