Life - but not as we knew it!
Life as a new mum or dad is exciting, challenging and tiring. Getting to know your baby can be rewarding and joyful, but there’s such a lot to learn – how to feed her, how to soothe her to sleep, how to keep her clean and warm. In these first days, it can feel as though you will never adapt to this new way of life.
You’ll soon start to work out your own ways of coping with parenthood, and your ways will probably be different from your family’s or your friends’. You are sure to get plenty of advice from everybody, but remember – this is your baby and you are in charge now.
The NCT is here to support you at this time.
We provide evidence based information via the NCT website. We also offer courses to help parents feel more confident and supported in their new life. Our helplines offer postnatal support with issues such as breastfeeding, crying, sleep and feeling low. There are books available via the NCT shop as well.
On a local level we help facilitate networks of parents via our e-groups and postnatal tea groups. We also offer advice on where to get breastfeeding support, hire a breast pump or valley cushion. We facilitate Baby + Child First Aid courses in partnership with the British Red Cross to give you the confidence to deal with emergencies.
