Meets every first and third Tuesday of each month from 10.30-11.45am at Hitchin Library
Oue NCT BabyCafe meets at Hitchin library on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Please note that you all branch activities currently need to be pre-booked.
Amy, our breastfeeding counsellor will be on hand to offer support and information for all things feeding and postnatal, including things such as checking position, supply or moving from breast feeding to solids. It’s also great opportunity to meet other parents and share stories.. Dads and other supporters always welcome. The service is available to everyone, you do not need to be an NCT member.
Please note that this service is FREE but must be pre-booked. The link to book a place can be found on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NCTHertsNorth or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the link.
The session is free of charge, we do however welcome donations to support the charity and help run these sessions.
Outside of these times, you can contact the NCT Feeding Helpline by calling 0300 3300 700 (option 1 8am - midnight). You'll speak to one of our amazing breastfeeding counsellors when you call. They've had extensive training and will use their person-centred counselling skills to support you. This includes listening to you without judging or criticising and offering relevant information and suggestions - whether you're breastfeeding, formula feeding or a bit of both.
At the BabyCafe you can:
- discuss your breastfeeding with a specialist
- ask someone to check your positioning (please remember to bring baby hungry if you would like someone to observe a feed or check your positioning)
- get information and support
Breastfeeding can sometimes be surprisingly difficult. Everybody has heard the message that 'Breast is Best', but doing the natural thing does not always come naturally. You may find feeding painful, or feel overwhelmed by it all. Help, information and support is offered this session.
We aim to provide all mothers and their babies with a place to come that is relaxed and comfortable, and where they can find skilled help and support with issues such as:
- sore nipples
- slow weight gain
- expressing milk
- stopping breastfeeding
- baby feeding constantly
- returning to work
You can also get advice on expressing breastmilk at the drop in session. Please bring a sterile pump with you if you want help expressing.
What is a NCT Branch Breastfeeding drop in?
Breastfeeding Drop-ins offer support to breastfeeding mothers at any stage in their breastfeeding journey, regardless of the age of the baby or child and no matter how much breastmilk you are giving. In a relaxed, informal atmosphere you can chat to other mums and get one-to-one help from specially trained breastfeeding counsellors.
What you can expect
This group is free and open to everyone wherever you are in your breastfeeding journey. You don't need to be an NCT member or have done an NCT antenatal course to go along.
Help is available on all aspects of breastfeeding and its impact on daily life – from starting to stopping and all the variations in between, along with social support from other breastfeeding mothers and volunteers.
This drop-in costs approximately £2300 per year to run and relies solely on grants and donations. Please consider donating whilst at the group.
