During pregnancy the muscles of your pelvic floor under-go several changes. Many women experience pelvic floor muscle weakness with leaking urine during exercise or when they cough or sneeze or signs and symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse. Some women also experience pelvic or vaginal pain which can be caused by tension in the pelvic floor muscle. Physiotherapy led pelvic floor exercise is the first line of defence to prevent and treat these symptoms. This session is led by a specialist women’s health physiotherapist and will lead you through a pelvic floor exercise programme that you can start today. You will learn about the changes in your body and what your symptoms may indicate; how to improve, resolve and prevent pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse. You will also learn tummy exercises to aid pelvic floor endurance, improve abdominal tone and rehabilitate diastasis recti (separation of abdominal muscles). You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions.
