The Top-Up BA (Hons) Birth and Beyond degree provides an academic course for those wishing to gain a degree while deepening their knowledge of birth and beyond.

Student and lecturer

You will have the opportunity to explore the historical, political, economic, sociological and cultural factors that shape the First 1,000 Days after birth.

The course then considers the theoretical and practical skills required to change and influence this cultural shaping.  One of the key skills developed is an understanding how adults learn as an individual and in more formal group situations.  Finally, you will be able to specialise in an area of particular interest to you within your Independent Study.

Why should I study the Top-Up BA (Hons) degree?

  • To develop the skills to work with and support adults through Birth and Beyond.
  • To develop your career within or outside NCT.
  • So that you can apply for work outside NCT that requires degree level qualifications or non-NCT courses such as PGCE.
  • To progress to further postgraduate work and research with NCT or in related fields.

Watch the video below to find out what current NCT practitioner Caroline enjoyed about continuing her training.

  • The Adult Learner
  • Independent Study

To learn more about each of these modules, visit the University of Worcester website.

At NCT we regularly review what we do so that we keep providing the best training possible.

We are currently looking at how we train practitioners so that we reach even more parents. This means that our training will look different in the years to come.

We are very proud to offer the only University accredited training for antenatal teachers, breastfeeding counsellors, postnatal practitioners, yoga teachers and doulas. Although the way we train students may change in the future we are committed to taking all current students and those who start with us in September through their foundation degree and into practice.

We hope you will join us in September to begin an amazing journey that will qualify you to work with parents at one of the most exciting times of their life. Join us now to be an NCT practitioner of the future.
