I've been an NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor since 2015 and an NCT volunteer peer supporter since 2012.
"Right now support is taking such a different form. I feel for parents looking for face-to-face support that just isn't as available as it was before lockdown."
I usually volunteer once a month at Baby Cafe Tunbridge Wells, but since lockdown I've been supporting families via Zoom and have been super busy seeing nearly 40 families online. Supporting parents at such a difficult time has been really rewarding.
This is one lovely message I received recently:
“Thanks again for your time and for all the precious info... am truly grateful to you and impressed with your help to other women...loads of love and positive thoughts to you.”
The rewarding thing for me in this time is that I have grown closer to my colleagues at Tunbridge Wells Baby Cafe. If one of us feels we aren't able to support a parent, one of us will step in to help. I have also been able to follow through with more parents and stay with them on their journey.
If you have any questions, concerns or need support - however you're feeding your baby - you can speak to our friendly breastfeeding counsellors free of charge by calling our Infant Feeding Support line on 0300 330 0700. The line is open every day from 8am to midnight, including bank holidays.
