Our weekly Relax, Stretch and Breathe classes give mothers-to-be, whether they are expecting their first, second or subsequent babies, an opportunity to get together with other pregnant mothers. They gain many benefits for pregnancy and birth, and spend time relaxing. Each week we do an hour of gentle yoga-inspired exercises and stretches, which are safe and gentle from 12 weeks gestation and are especially designed for pregnant women to prepare them for birth and beyond. These very popular classes also focus on breathing techniques, positions for labour and therapeutic relaxation.
These NCT classes are run in an active birth format with breathing exercises, relaxation and positions for labour, which are fundamental to the yoga-inspired exercises part of the class. Another important aspect of the classes is Topic Time, following the exercise we have time for questions and chat around pregnancy, birth and life with a new baby; such as optimal foetal positioning (getting baby in the right position for birth) exploring pain and how to cope in labour and life with a newborn baby. Many of the mums return to share their birth stories, which the other mothers-to-be find really enjoyable and helpful. It's also a great way to meet and make friends with other mums to be and gain practical tips which makes these classes so unique and fun! We also provide light refreshments, while we chat. These weekly sessions cost £6.00 a class and discount rates are available.
The aim for these NCT interactive classes is for you to have an enjoyable and relaxing time, whilst improving your physical and emotional well-being and helping you to achieve a positive birth experience. They are gentle exercises that are safe and suitable for beginners if you haven't done them before, giving you confidence and control during your pregnancy, birth and postnatally. Please note: Our NCT Relax, Stretch and Breathe teachers will have undergone three years of training as an antenatal teacher plus a further year of yoga training. As a result you can feel confident that not only will the exercises be designed to be safe for pregnant women, but your teacher will understand many of the physical discomforts which can come with pregnancy – backache, heartburn etc and will be able to show you which postures to avoid and which might help.
