Antenatal and Early Days Courses
NCT offers a broad range of courses in the Petersfield and Liss branch area. Courses are open to members and non-members alike but as places are at a premium we suggest you book as early in your pregnancy as possible.
Relax, Stretch and Breathe for Pregnancy classes- returning early 2016!
NCT Relax, Stretch and Breathe (yoga based exercise) classes are held as a weekly drop-in, so you can start at any stage in your pregnancy, after 12 weeks. Contact Polly on 01730 888340 or email@example.com for more information or to book a place. (Classes are starting up again early 2016. Contact Polly to go on the waiting list and find out more about the classes.)
Sundays 6-8pm The Avenue Pavillion, The Avenue, Petersfield. The class is 2 hours long. Drinks and biscuits provided. New Mums are occasionally invited back to tell their stories. Please bring a mat, blanket and a pillow. (I have a couple of spare mats if needed).
The collective experience from NCT classes is that women attending the classes tend to have easier labours and feel more positive postnatally, even if the labour did not go as planned. RSB classes enable women to:
• gain confidence
• gain relief from aches and pains
• sleep better
• make friends
• have ‘time out’ and ‘me time’ with the baby in a positive, nourishing environment
• learn breathing strategies for labour
• prepare for the physical experience of birth in a kinaesthetic way.
These courses focus on providing you with the information and skills you need to make your own decisions about your labour and birth. All courses are flexible to allow each group to focus on their own needs and spend more time on the topics that are most relevant to them. Some of the topics we cover include: practical skills for labour, including breathing, massage and birth positions; your pain relief choices; realistic information on what happens during birth; and early days with your baby. Most courses include a session with a qualified breastfeeding counsellor and these friendly sessions provide practical information to help you to start breastfeeding and to consider what life will be like with a new baby.
We offer both standard and intensive formats. We keep our courses small and informal, so you will generally be in a group of eight women and their partners or supporters. Courses are usually in the evening or at weekends and will include a postnatal reunion. Most parents will be first-timers, but all parents are welcome, whether it's your first or fifth baby.

These courses are for those who have already had at least one baby. They offer a chance to reflect and build on past birth experiences and prepare yourself for looking after your new baby. Our courses are tailored to the needs of those there based on their previous birth experience and their desires for this birth. Most courses run as a set of sessions with the same group attending each session. Refresher courses are a good way of concentrating on this baby and this pregnancy - often overlooked when there are toddlers and other children to look after. They are also a good way of meeting others and making a friendship group for the new addition. Parents often find that the people they meet on these courses become an important support in the months and sometimes years after their babies are born. These courses vary in length, although are generally shorter than standard antenatal course, generally covering 6-14 teaching hours. Most include sessions for women only. NCT courses are small and informal, so we generally have around eight women with their partners or supporters in a session.

Relax, Stretch with baby
We are excited to announce that our new Relax & Stretch with Baby classes (RSBaby) have arrived in the area. The classes are held at the United Reformed Church Hall in Liss (GU33 7PX) and the cost is £5 per class.
NCT Relax & Stretch with Baby classes provide a wonderful opportunity for you as a new mother to ease your way back into exercise after the birth of your baby. Each class comprises gentle yoga and pilates based exercises for both you and your baby to do together.
Mums will have the opportunity to do exercises and stretches to:
- strengthen and tone your muscles; especially abdominal, pelvic floor and back muscles
- increase your fitness levels
- regain and maintain a good posture
- provide some vital relaxation
- re-energise and motivate you for the rest of the week
Babies will have the opportunity to experience some yoga based exercises and massage, especially for them to:
- encourage their reflexes to develop
- enhance their motor development
- increase their awareness of their surroundings
- calm and relax them, helping them to sleep better
Overall the class allows time for the mother and baby bond to develop, enhancing your understanding of your baby and hence increasing your confidence in being a parent.
Music features highly throughout the class, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere, re-learn those nursery rhymes and come and join us.
NCT Relax & Stretch with Baby classes are run by NCT practitioners who have undergone extra training in teaching postnatal relaxation and exercise classes.
NCT Relax & Stretch with Baby classes are suitable for you and your baby to attend from six weeks after birth until baby is a year old. You need to have had your six/eight week check from your GP and been given permission to restart exercising before attending classes.
To book a place, please contact Liane on firstname.lastname@example.org Bookings will be on a first come first served basis, as there is a limit to the numbers the hall can accommodate.
Early Days courses
These postnatal courses give you the opportunity to explore different approaches to important parenting issues with a qualified group leader and other new parents in your area. These sessions are designed to help you feel confident about the decisions and choices that you make for your baby. You will be encouraged to share ideas and experiences and help others to do the same so that you can support each other as you learn more about your skills as a parent. Issues covered include: expectations and the reality of parenthood, ideas for settling a crying baby, getting the most out of the day and returning to work (or not). The sessions take place with mother and baby during the day time and will be weekly.
