Our amazing committee members (October 2015)
Emma – Joint Branch Co-ordinator
My journey with the NCT began with antenatal classes, where I met a fabulous group of people. I attended coffee mornings from the beginning of maternity leave and we are still regulars more then three years later. I honestly don't know what I would have done without the support of my local group. I have made some of my closest friends through the classes and groups. It is a really inclusive group and everyone is made to feel welcome. More than that, I feel that I have found a charity that is really worth supporting, from the local support groups to the national research and campaigns. My first volunteering role was membership co-ordinator and I moved from that to Co-chair in 2014. We are all very proud of our branch; which is going from strength to strength. We have a growing number of coffee morning attendees and are social events are well attended too. The Nearly New Sales remain popular and we have exciting plans for the year ahead including breastfeeding support from our Breastfeeding Counsellor in training. We always have room for new volunteers and members, so come along to a coffee morning or event and see what you think!
Beci – Joint Branch Co-ordinator
I first heard about my local branch of the NCT from a friend. So when my daughter was 4 months old I went along, nervously, to my first coffee morning at a lady's house. Little did I know I was starting on an entirely new chapter in my life and was about to meet some people who I have come to regard as family. A few months later I agreed to go along to the Annual Members Meeting and came away from that as Parent Support Coordinator. Then a year later I also became Co-Chair of the branch. About me, my (not so) little girl is called Rosie and I'm a Teaching Assistant at a local Primary school. I love Zumba, swimming and watching telly!
Lizzy – Branch Treasurer
I found out about NCT from some friends I had made when I had my first baby. I started attending coffee mornings and local activities such as an amazing Easter egg hunt whilst pregnant with my second child and working part time. I became a member of NCT and decided to support my local branch when the role of treasurer came up for grabs as I felt I needed to give something back for finding such a wonderful group of friends. I have found that it is also a great support network.
Karen - Branch Secretary
I became part of the NCT after I had my baby. I had wanted to get involved before, but found it difficult to commit, having had a traumatic pregnancy and being scared to bond with my unborn baby due to the fear of losing her. However, after having her I felt ready and got involved with the NCT and realised what a fantastic support network it is for families. I am now Secretary for our branch and am enjoying an active role.
Stacey – Branch Membership Co-ordinator & Breastfeeding Counsellor (in-training)
My first contact with the NCT was when my second child was 6 days old and we took my first child to have a play at Fuzzy Eds, a regular meet up for Bumps, Babes and Beyond. I was approached by two ladies from the committee and they told me all about the wonderful things NCT does and about the group. A few weeks later I went along very nervously, and have not looked back! I have made some amazing friends and had some wonderful support (and continue to do so). I knew quite early on this was a charity I really wanted to be involved in, seeing what it has done for me and for others locally and nationally. I became Membership Co-ordinator and I help out at our Award winning Nearly New Sales. I am also training to be a Breastfeeding Counsellor through the NCT, once my training is complete I am looking forward to supporting mums in our area even more.
Emma – Branch Parent Support Co-ordinator & PSA Link
I first found out about NCT when I was looking for antenatal classes during my pregnancy in 2013. My partner & I attended the evening classes & found the course very informative, with a relaxed atmosphere. We made some good friends at the classes & the reunion after our babies were born was a lovely way to get back in touch with them, especially after the hazy first few weeks with a newborn. When our babies were a few weeks old another mum from the antenatal course & I went along to a Bumps, Babes & Beyond coffee morning. The families were all so welcoming that my daughter & I became regulars. Then earlier this year the parent support co-ordinator stepped down so I put myself forward for the role. I felt that it would be a great chance for me to give back to the group that had given me so much in the previous year. I have made great friends through the branch & there is always someone to talk to when you are going through one the many challenges that come with parenthood.
Liz – Branch Nearly New Sale Co-ordinator
I started going to my local NCT group when my little boy was 6 weeks old and I was instantly made to feel welcome. It was fantastic to be able to share experiences with new mums going through the same things as well as enjoy a nice hot coffee! Both myself and my son have made some brilliant friends out of the group and I decided to become more involved recently to give something back to the group and hopefully be able to help others
Sophie – Branch Nearly New Sale Volunteer
I found the NCT on the Internet and I started attending the weekly Bumps, Babes and Beyond coffee group despite being a bit scared and apprehensive of going to a group where I knew no one else. I shouldn't have been either of these as I was welcomed by lovely people and their children. I have since made some amazing friends that have been there to support and offer advice but never to be judgemental. My little girl has also made some brilliant friends, as has my husband through attending the numerous events the branch holds throughout the year. I know when my next baby arrives in 2016 that they will also make some brilliant friends to explore the world, play and grow up with. I have volunteered at the Nearly New Sales since joining and helped organise a raffle at the sales. I feel really proud to be one of the volunteers that has helped our branch achieve the Gold Standard for our sales. I decided that I wanted to take a more active role in my local NCT and give something back to the branch and charity that have given me so much more than I could have imagined and so took up the position on the committee of being responsible for sending out the sellers packs for the nearly new sales. Being on the committee and working as part of a team is really rewarding and ensures our local branch can continue to help and support local parents.
Leanne - Branch General Enquiries
I first heard of NCT when I attended a Nearly New Sale eight months into my maternity leave. The ladies at the till were lovely and encouraged me to attend coffee mornings. I was gutted I'd missed out for so long! My little boy and I have made so many friends. Now I am back at work, I miss my Thursday mornings but I'm so pleased my husband has received such a huge welcome as he looks after our boy. I can't wait for my second maternity leave to start so I can go back. I know the support I will get with my second will be outstanding. I enjoy working on the committee answering the emails as I am able to help other new parents find the group and encourage them to attend knowing the'll get so much out of it too.
Jacqueline – Branch Social Media & Web Co-ordinator
I first came to the NCT through friends who I had met after having my first little girl, then whilst pregnant with my second child I started attending the weekly Bumps, Babes and Beyond coffee group. I have met wonderfully welcoming people and made some great friends for both my girls and myself. I have helped out at the Nearly New Sales since joining and feel really proud to be one of the volunteers that has helped to gain the Gold Standard for our sales. On returning to work, in July 2015, I felt that I wanted to take a more active role in my local NCT and so took up the position of Branch Social Media & Website Co-ordinator. I love being part of a team that works so hard for the parents in our area.
Melissa - Regional Coordinator & Antenatal Teacher
My name is Melissa and I am an NCT antenatal teacher and mum to 3 school aged children. I joined NCT in 2001 and went to NCT antenatal classes during my first pregnancy. I trained as an antenatal teacher to offer expectant mums and dads the same information and support that I was given that was invaluable during the early months with my first child. I have been qualified since 2011 and I am really looking forward to welcoming parents and babies to classes and coffee mornings.
