NCT Bromley & Chislehurst hosted their second Pregnancy & Baby Fair on Saturday 10 July 2010 and attracted more than 200 visitors, despite temperatures soaring to 32C on one of the hottest days of the year.

The fundraising event was held at Bromley's Civic Centre and the first 150 couples through the door received a free goody bag. Opening the event, Mr Bob Neill, MP for Bromley & Chislehurst, said that he was delighted to support the work of the UK’s largest charity for parents.

Exhibitors, Pampering and Nearly New Sale

Exhibitors ranged from cloth nappies to hypnotherapists, from chiropractors to financial advisors. New products for sale included baby clothes and gifts, and all exhibitors were treated to a slice of specially designed NCT cake, by kind donation of Ashley Aspin Cakes.

In the Pampering Corner, visitors indulged in various mini treatments including reflexology, manicures and pedicures. The Nearly New Sale, offering baby clothes from 0-6 months, and toys and equipment from 0-12 months, was particularly popular.

Thank you to all our volunteers

The Fair was run exclusively by volunteers, the youngest being Alfie Keddie, aged 10, who showed signs of a promising career in fundraising with his loudspeaker announcements, drumming up trade for the refreshments stall. The oldest volunteer, Margaret Anderson (aged 78) described herself as an “NCT pioneer”, her involvement with the charity dating back to her own pregnancy 46 years ago! Teenagers Rowan Parfree and Jenny Jones turned their hand at most jobs during the afternoon, including decorating the refreshments area and selling raffle tickets. Many other volunteers in-between (some with newborn babies in tow) helped with the preparations for the day, took money on the door, and worked on the Nearly New Sale.

Thank you to our sponsors

Corporate sponsor, Helen Whitaker of Monkey Music, said: “We are very excited to be sponsoring this fantastic event, and supporting the invaluable work of the NCT with local parents.”

Tom Merralls, Principal of TJM Law, said: "As parents ourselves who have benefited from the excellent support the NCT offers, this has given us the opportunity to give something back. Like the NCT, TJM Law takes pride in serving local families in the community, and we are proud to be sponsoring such a worthwhile event."
