Celebrate Mother's Day with a difference

Released on: 28 April 2011

There are lots of ways you could celebrate Mother’s Day this April – enjoying breakfast in bed, freshly-picked garden flowers from the kids, a Sunday roast with all the trimmings… or jumping out of a plane at 10,000ft to help NCT, the UK’s largest parenting charity, support thousands of other mums around the country.

As part of their Mother’s Day celebrations, NCT is urging adrenaline junkies to soar above the clouds and take in panoramic views at airports near them on or around Sunday 3 April 2011.

If the thought of leaping into thin air gives you goose bumps, don’t worry. NCT skydives are tandem jumps, so all participants will be harnessed to a professional parachute instructor throughout the experience – as well as being fully trained on the day.

Jumpers need to raise at least £365 - of which £140 will go to the NCT. NCT hopes to have around 50 supporters skydiving at designated airports across the UK raising up to £10,000. All the money will go directly to further the work of NCT and its 320 branches across the UK – helping new and expectant parents with the challenges they face. More funds are needed to provide antenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding counselling and peer supporter networks so every new mum can get the support she needs.

Maria van der Veer, Commercial and Events fundraising manager at NCT, says: “This is an amazing opportunity to live a real life adventure and we’re grateful to everyone helping to raise vital funds for the charity. Come and support mothers everywhere by taking a leap of faith, and choose an airport near you so your friends and family can go along to cheer you on!”
