The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, has announced a new policy for shared parental leave, which will come into effect in April 2015.

NCT’s Policy Adviser Elizabeth Duff Said:

“NCT welcomes the announcement on shared paternal leave which is a commendable step forward. We know that fathers spending time with their babies during the first 1,000 days helps them to bond, which is important for both parents and children.

“We urge employers to embrace the benefits that shared parental leave can offer and hope that the government will stick to their commitment to look at extending paid paternity leave. NCT believes that better paid paternity leave will be a key factor in enabling fathers to take time off. Ideally we’d like to see either parent have the right to return to work on a part-time basis, which can often be helpful when settling children into childcare.”
