In response to the announcement on maternal mental health funding in the Budget, Elizabeth Duff, Senior Policy Adviser at NCT said:

“This additional funding will be a lifeline for new mothers across the country struggling with postnatal depression. NCT research shows that the current state of maternal mental health services is unacceptable and too many desperate parents are falling through the gaps. We hope this funding will mean mothers won’t have to wait or travel far from home to receive the vital support they need.”

Notes:

A NCT survey of 186 Clinical Commissioning Groups in England found clear gaps in the provision of care for maternal mental health with only 3% reporting they had a perinatal mental health strategy. Out of the 97% with no strategy, 60% had no plans to put one in place.
