In response to the survey from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills which found that the majority of UK believe childcare should be shared equally between couples, Elizabeth Duff, Senior Policy Adviser, NCT said:

“These survey findings suggest a good take-up of the new Shared Parental Leave, which will help many parents to manage their work and family life. However, our research has found expensive childcare and a lack of flexible working opportunities remain major roadblocks for parents returning to work.

“For new mums and dads, going back to work comes with mixed emotions. Without access to quality childcare and flexible working hours this decision can become very difficult. The Government needs to prove it is serious about supporting families by listening to new parents and driving more family friendly working initiatives.”
