An antenatal practitioner in Newham has been honoured with the Practitioner Reaching All Parents Award at the national NCT Stars event.

NCT Stars Awards celebrate and honour the efforts of the charity’s volunteers and practitioners who give their time and skills to support mums and dads in their communities.

Andrea Weyand won the award, which is presented to the practitioner who has done the most to increase the reach of NCT in their area.

Andrea has worked to train more breastfeeding peer supporters in the diverse East London borough and has successfully recruited more women from local black and ethnic minority communities. She has also helped set up a drop-in feeding support group for Newham parents.

Presenting the award at City Hall, London, Virginia Campbell, Head of NCT College, said: “The Stars Awards are a great way to thank some of our fabulous practitioners, who play a vital role by providing high quality courses and workshops for new parents. Andrea is someone who has gone the extra mile to support parents and richly deserves her accolade.”

Andrea Weyand said: “I’m delighted to win this award which recognises the work we’re doing in the local branch to support parents. It’s an honour to win during NCT’s 60th anniversary as it’s a reminder of the parents we’ve supported in the area over the years.”

NCT is the UK’s largest charity for parents. For more information about becoming an NCT practitioner, visit its website or call its enquiries line on 0300 330 0770.
