A Brighton & Hove mum has received recognition for her hard work supporting local parents at the What’s On 4 Junior Awards 2012 with Konfidence.

Claire Cornthwaite, who volunteers as Branch Coordinator of NCT Brighton & Hove Branch, was named Most Outstanding Community Group Volunteer for Children at the annual awards, which reward and celebrate companies, organisations and individuals providing the best activities for children across the UK.

Claire started volunteering for the branch in the summer of 2008, when she saw a piece in the members’ newsletter asking for new volunteers. She got in touch and became the branch events coordinator. More recently Claire has volunteered as Branch Coordinator, as well as editing the newsletter.

Claire said: “I am completely overwhelmed by winning this award, and am so grateful to all that voted for me.

“I had an 18-month-old daughter and was pregnant with my second when I started volunteering for the branch. It was a great way to meet other families in the area.

“The volunteer work I do is important to me and it’s an honour to have been nominated for my work with NCT. The icing on the cake is being recognised in such an amazing way.”

NCT, the UK’s largest charity for parents, also won its category for the best Pre / Post Natal Activity as sponsored by Tiddley Pom Natural Baby Spa.
